Whew! For size and features; probably a dvc30. 100's and 80's are too big for personal/hobby pack and go. Consumer cams are too small and incapable. I liked the PDX but its propensity to create verticle smear soured me. The dvc30 matches the formfactor and I like the convertible options.

...hope the onboard mic's sound good.

After a lot of nail biting, I've decided to go with the PDX 10.
Guess I'll have to learn something about lighting.

I'll definitely wait right now. There aren't enough HDV cams right now to see what a good price/performance combination would be. And (being PAL) there's still a lot of mileage in SD, so I expect to see some rollicking functionality being added to lower cost SD cams in the near future.

I'm getting a Cinealta, in my dreams!

John Garcia April 30th, 2004 11:40 AM

that's what im trying to figure out right now...i was looking at the dv953...but ioono...i dont know what to expect out of the low light performance...:-/

Frank Granovski April 30th, 2004 11:54 AM

I'd also consider a PV-DV953 if prices really plummet in the next few months (pre-GS400 months).

I love the picture quality, manual functions and low light capabilities of my PD-150, but I‘m looking for a much smaller second camera I can carry around all the time. The Sony consumer cams have great chips, but unfortunately almost all manual functions dropped. If the rumoured specs are correct, the Panasonic GS-400 will come close to my needs. The new Elura 40 could also be a contender. Just waiting for the official Pana specifications.

when was the gs400 due out? i may want to look into this as well...instead of the 953...? any suggestions? ???

Gino Terribilini May 4th, 2004 02:41 AM

I'm thinking i'll get a nice XL2. What do you think? Then again, maybe by the time that comes out it will be time to move on to high def. Or maybe it will be high def....

I'm still using my DV852, but looking for something else pretty soon. DVC80, DVC30 hard to say which. Depends on prices. I know I want facctory XLR with phantom, that's for sure.

Dave Largent May 5th, 2004 02:21 AM

VX2100. Need the low light reach.

Michael Struthers May 6th, 2004 11:40 PM

Must have 16x9. I'm really thinking a Canon Optura Xi. I can always de-interlace in post.

Need low-light? Scratch the DVX and DVC...go with the PD170.

I owned a DVX and sold it for the 170 for low-light reasons specifically.

Jeff Toogood May 7th, 2004 07:47 AM

Saving up for a PD-170 right now, I really need the low light and XLR audio. Just wish it had a better 16:9 mode.
