Hldv7w

Hi, all.

I'm very curious about this popular Ikegami model. Why is it so low in price, considering it's native 2/3" 16:9 cam with excellent sounding controls, etc? Is it old? I don't know a great deal about these higher end cams, and I'm not exactly in the market at this time, but this one really seems to take the cake, with an $11k starting price...

Just curious.

It's probably as cheap as it is because Ikegami sort of lost the market to Sony in this area. It's a great camera, every bit as good as the equivalent Sony, and actually, if my memory for statistics is accurate, it is about 2 db better in S/N ratio. But, in addition to at least $5,000-$6,000 for a minimal quality lens, you'll have to put in about another $1,500-$2,000 for batteries and charger.
Still, you could get a decent package for right at $20K, significantly cheaper than the DSR570. I've had a DSR500 with 16:9 chips for about 4 years now and couldn't be happier, but if I were going to buy another one today, I'd get the Ikegami just on price alone.

So it's not that it has any, er, eccentricities or idiosynracies, it just fell prey to market outcome. Well, I hope it's like happens again when I am in the market! Thanks.

Shawn, one of the regulars over at DV.com (I think) has this Ikegami and has written quite a bit of positive things about it in the past. You might want to have a look if you're interested.
