Resolution Charts at DVinfo.net

In a never-ending quest to get the best picture out of my JVC GY-DV301E, I've been trying to track down some Resolution Charts.

The JVC GY-DV301E has a heap of manual controls, and I've found NO information out there on how to get the best image... so I'm going it alone.

I'm just now putting together a bunch of res tests I did with the VX-2000 and PDX-10 using the EIA 1956 chart from John Beale's website. One thing I've learned is that it's difficult to be "scientific" with this sort of test. There are a lot of variables and I ended up up re-shooting numerous times. However, in the end I think it can be a useful tool that can help you understand your camera and its limits.

I've been capturing DV directly from firewire using BTV Pro on my powerbook. One nice thing about this program is that it offers "scopes" so you can look at waveform and other graphs of the data from the camera. This is a big help in making sure you're getting the most from your camera.

There may not be a lot of info on getting the best image from your specific camera, but there's plenty of information about DV if you look for it. And "best" is sort of a subjective thing, depending on what's important to you. But it sounds like you're off to a good start. A little experimentation will teach you a lot about your camera.
