LANC Jack

The tip of my LANC jack snapped off. Wikipedia says its a 2.5mm jack.

Should I be able replace it with a 2.5mm stereo jack which is used for audio? I can save myself a lot of money, by cutting the existing cable and soldering it on.
I'd rather get a $3 for 2.5mm stereo jack

B&H sells the Varizoom cable but its $25 with shipping.

I've read of others doing it OK. They must be cheap brass, how did it happen?

Should be able to pick one up at the local Radio Shack, and yes, it's a standard stereo miniplug, just be sure you don't get the slightly larger 1/8"...

I bought it off ebay for a second camera and I can't remember if it came that way or I did it the very first time I used it. I've plugged in my other lanc remote hundreds of times without it ever happening. I have no way to be sure whether it came that way but in a dark theater and the camera is mounted high on a tripod and your using feel to reach up, find the right jack and push it in. Since there is no tip broken off in the lanc jack in the camera I think it must have come that way.
