A>D convert zr70mc help please.

Bought a Canon zr70mc to do some analog to digital conversion of some old tapes a friend of mine has.

I've hooked up everything according to the manual but I'm not getting any input. Video is coming out of the VCR just fine as I've put the input to my TV and I can see and hear. But it seems that it just can't get to the DV cam.

1. Is the output of the VCR supposed to be visible on the lcd of the camera?

2. Is there a setting other than AV > DV that I need to set on the camera? I've checked everything else and it all looks good to me. I shoot on an XL1 so I'm pretty familiar with the controls. Too bad I can't input to the XL1. My church has a PD170 and I've read that it can do A>D so I may try that to rule out whether it's the VCR or Camera.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This camera has been a headache from day one, and I'm almost regretting purchasing it.

Does your camera have to be in VCR/VTR mode , or camera mode? I don't have that model, but I suspect from my experience of doing conversion on my XL2 that you should see the footage coming through on the camera LCD as you convert. Hopefully someone who has done this with a ZR model can chime in.

Yeap, it has me in VCR mode.

I'd be really upset if the plug was bad. :( I have 2 sets of AV cables and neither of them work so I've ruled that out. Doubtfull they're both bad. And I know the VCR works fine so it has to be in the camera somewhere.

Camera Menu > VCR Setup > Phones / AV

Set to "AV"

I'll double check but I'm pretty sure that's what I have it set to as well.

Just ressurecting this thread as I'm now working on an older z45mc, and having a similar difficulty.

I'm in camera mode as it says to, and I'm getting audio but no video. It looks like from the manual that the only video hookup capable is s-video. Seems a bit backwards as it's a consumer camera, and most consumer VHS players at the time didn't have s-video. I have the 3 into one mini jack for the video/audio, but no setup options in the menu to accept different video inputs.
