Help on SD to HD Upscaling Technique?

Hey,

I shot some footage with a DVX-100 and anamorphic lens so the result is 854 X 480 Video footage.

I'd like to upscale this so it gets a decent HD image...preferably 1920 X 1080....

I've got a mac mini with firewire 800 and usb 2.0

I'm using FC Studio 2 with FCP version 6.0.6.

Is there a relatively inexpensive way to make a decent "upscale" of this footage so it passes as HD? I was hoping to find distribution for this 24p feature.

Any suggestion will help!

Thanks

Re: Help on SD to HD Upscaling Technique?

Probably just converting it to some sort of lossless intermediate and then putting it through your NLE to re-scale it with a bit of a sharpen filter (or unsharp mask) is about as good as its going to get, out of easy options.
Some sort of heavy duty program with frame based processing like After Effects would probably do a better job, but I suspect it'd be fairly marginal.

I'd use Virtual Dub, but that's PC based so is not much help.

Whether any results make it 'pass as HD' is entirely subjective. It'd probably never fool any pro or enthusiast. Since most people are used to watching badly compressed 576i broadcasts or regular DVDs on their nice 1080 set it'd probably be adequate.
