BBC Blue Peter 60 years old.

There's a story on the BBC website about BB being sixty and I thought this picture was interesting of the studio setup. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/in-pictures-45861888

Brings back memories. "Get down Shep !"

The National Science and Media Museum in Bradford is well worth the visit if you are interested in studio broadcast technology through the years.

Re: BBC Blue Peter 60 years old.

Coincidentally, I just came across this picture in an album at my parent's house, me and my siblings (I'm the youngest) meeting Peter Purves at a festival in the UK somewhere around 1971!

Also--I might have in a box somewhere--a long treasured "behind the scenes" Blue Peter book from that era showing many pics like the one in that article of the technology in the studio. One of the various childhood things that I think sparked my interest in this career! The Corgi van with the cameraman on the roof being another...

Watched all the time when I lived in England 1971-1974. What a great show!

Re: BBC Blue Peter 60 years old.

Donald I remember these cameras. I started with the BBC in 1966. They were still using some of these EMI CPS Emitron 10678 cameras then, B&W 405 line B and 625 line models.. At about 150 lbs took four guys to rig one up. 3", 4", 8" and 12" lenses by Dallmeyer. A "cable basher" used to follow the camera operators around to to make sure the camera cables didn't get snagged or entangled when they moved. The cameras and studio syncs had to be aligned every day and the CCUs were basically a full rack size. Man have things changed. I never used them as I was on the film side but I always remember these monsters in the TV studios and used to look upon them with amazement. Thanks for the memories!
