How to connect TRV480 as pass through capturing analog

Hi ALL

Pls, I'll like to know how to connect my SONY TRV480 camcoder as pass thru to capture analogue video from VCR to my PC. Anytime I attempted this, I'm only able to capture the audio but nothing shows on the camera LCD. Ironically, it was clearly stated in the cam manual that it's quite possible but i've made several attempts & could not still work out. This my inabailty has made me to buy an ext. TV card (Cute TV USB) which could not even give me a great video quality production I desire.

I do connect the cam to VCR thru the 3-head RCA cable supplied & the Cam to PC thru firewire(aka 1394). The camcoder is fully recognised by the PC & my editing softwares.

If it has to do with settings, I have tried all these: On the camcoder
P-Menu>Menu>Standard set>a/v-dv out (set to ‘ON’)
P-Menu>Display>LCD Panel (set to ‘ON’)
P-Menu>Menu>USB-PLY/EDT> USB Stream or STD-USB or Pictbridge (I do select USB stream)

Or does it have to do with: i-link / IR setting in Prog Edit

Or does this have to do with TV colur sys or VCR setting: Auto/PAL/SECAM/N443? I have experimented all.

I still wonder what type of analog movie conversion SONY refers?

Pls, what else do I need to know on the connection/setting

PLS, I'LL APPRECIATE A CLUE TO SOLVING THIS PROBLEM.

Rgds,

John

Welcome to DVinfo John. Not familiar with that model, but I'd suspect the USB settings. You need to be sending the data via ieee-1394 so i.link should be enabled and I'd think USB should be off (although that may only affect still pictures). I also wonder about the PAL/SECAM settings since US camcorders don't have that option. Are you using a PAL VCR and is the camera set to PAL?

Sorry, maybe one of our members has a camera similar to yours and can help.
