Canon HV10 with Zoom H4 or Sony HDR-HC7??

Hi All,

I have an indoor family event to take coming up in mid-March. All other necessities aside and taking into account the HV10's audio shortcomings, would I be better off with the Canon HV10+H4 or waiting until (nearly) last minute for the HC7?.....or just renting an XH-A1 (or equivalent) locally (where in Tampa?) and wait for more info.

While I will be editing all footage for later consumption, my primary concerns are:
- A kabillion audio synchings with HV10 rig.
- Time to get acquainted before event.
- Unknown picture quality of the new HC7 (Likely good, but better than HV10?)
- Keep seeing rumors of new Canons in the near future.

Any help appreciated!

Ha, that's good... For a single event I would rent for the day, just be sure you get enough practice time in with the camera if needed.

Then, buy what you really want/need based on the kind of shooting you will do 90% of the time.

Thanks Tom.

I was leaning that way, but can't find a comparable (and reasonably priced) rental in the area. And, will now be doing some light keying work, so it looks like we are waiting on the HC7 unless there's a delay.....or I can locate a rental...or...or...

The 90% would likely fall as a family documentary/holiday cam and the other 10% as a b-roll to deposition/wedding/event stuff in the future.
