which software for an automatic random video montage generation ?
 

I have a quick question:

I have hundreds of short video clips (1 minute or shorter each) on my hard drive...

and I wanted a software that can automatically take multiple random video clips and create an hour long video of an animated split-screen (or multi-screen) video montage that looks professional.
So, something that would show multiple videos simultaneously with professional looking transitions, and special effects.
I would like this software to be able to launch automatically from a batch command.

Can someone please suggest the best software to create this system which can be run automatically from batch commands.

Pinnacle Studio 10 plus has some sort of auto generating feature, that may help you, but I don't think it support a multiple frames. And to expect a professional result out of any sort of random program is a bit of a stretch, don't you think ?

PPro has an automate to sequence tool that will place multiple clips/images in the timeline and apply a chosen transition, etc. However, it's not random unless you mix up the clips in the bin and use the selection order. It's a start, but not a complete solution. Never is. Furthermore I agree with Chris, automatic does not mean professional.

Capable of playing two clips as montage of choice in one window and adding
motion paths/annimation to the perspective 2 x windows. More clips can be
added as seperate windows but the ammount of seperate windows to be
opened and played in a single screen depends on the format.

avi's = x 2 screens in a given montage / mpeg compressed files will give even
more seperate screens. The ammount and variety of transitions is not as
powerful as your mainstream editing programmes but you could assemble
your hour long avi's with powerful transitions and effects in one of your
mainstream nle programmes for playback/montage and batch run with OPUS.

Follow up.

With most of the editors, assuming you determined which clips to use, you can assign a group of files to 2 or more time lines, assing each time line in its own inset using various techniques. In PPro 2.0 for instance, I would put each set of files I want for a particular line it own separate sequence, then use the sequence nested in a new sequence, locating them on the project screen in reduced sizes, and applying filters and borders as required. you could move and enlarge the various insets at will, using keyframe techniques, etc....
