Is it best to shoot with Panasonic SD700 using 1080 50p and convert to 720 50p?

Is it best to shoot in 1080 50p mode and then convert for editing in a 720 50p timeline? The final output will be bluray (720 50p) and ipod. Or is it best to simply use HA 1080 25i (50i)? What potential pitfalls might I encounter?

Thanks for any opinions / or observations from anyone with experience of this camera.
