Gs 100k Owners Association!!

Hi Guys:

How about adding the names of people who have gs 100k currently and their source, from where they got.

It helps addressing the person if they available, or if there is a problem with one camcorder all the owners can check in the same pattern to see whether it makes the same problem or not.
Any suggestions welcome.

Hi guys,

Just curious, did you have to pay any import tax/duty to get it into your countries.

Thanks for the info.

Marius Burz July 31st, 2003 04:06 AM

Joao,

This thread is not the place to ask this.
Eventually start a new thread.
And you know, this depends on that many factors... like country, person that was on service and many others...

ciao,
marius

Marius,

My question may seem out of context on this thread, but so far I have posted similar questions on other threads without any reply. Since all 3 people on this thread had their cameras shipped from Japan to US, GER and ?, I was wondering if I could have a reply on your personal cases.

Don't worry, I do not have any connections to any tax authorities. My problem is that living in Thailand, I could face 60% import duties if I have a camera shipped here. I have friends on both sides of the ocean and also have some business trips that will take me to US/Europe at some point. To avoid problems, I can always have it shipped there, asking friends to hand carry it when they come to Thailand or pick it up myself during any of my visits abroad.

Can I join too?

Well mine GS100 is not from pricejapan so no information on customs duties (check you country policy – foreign ministry should have even home page with all the info listed).

So here’s my data:
Shop - Camera no Kitamura, August 1st 2003, \130000 incl. 5% tax, 1% in points from the purchase used for 5-year guarantee policy (not very good one)
Lot’s of presents – 2 toys for my kids, small camera bag, coupons giving you:
30 free prints from digital camera; free big-size digital print; free back up CD;
Discount 10% on digital camera media; inkjet paper; tape, CD-R & DVD; albums; tripods and bags; filters, conversion lens; also similar offers on normal film camera.
Happyyy…

Lincoln Norris August 10th, 2003 07:33 PM

I Purchased my GS100K yesterday in Akihabara....I found this shop through kakaku.com which is also linked to price japan.

The cheapest shop was 118,000yen but I wanted black. Calling down the list in order of location convenience and price, after 15 shops I found one in Akihabara with black in stock. 119,000. The next morning this shop had changed its price to 117,800 the cheapest on the list and I went straight in and picket up my black beuty. 117,800 plus 5% tax. Then bought the 6HR panasonic battery for 14,000yen inc Tax.

Strange shop however, It had plastic sandles for sale out the front and digital gadgets strung up all over the joint,

No hi-tech feel about the place with unhelpful staff, and my purchase was over in 3 minutes from walking in the door.

Cheers ,

Lincoln

Bogdan Vaglarov August 10th, 2003 08:09 PM

Congratulations Lincoln!

Ha-ha, the shop describes very well Japan I guess.

Outside world usually is bad informed about the reality in Japan so this might help to many people to imagine what it is like.

Allan Rejoso August 10th, 2003 09:31 PM

Lincoln, let me guess, Royal?

By the way, that store looks better than most other discount shops (LOL) and at least, the sellers wear tie. Most of them look like small warehouses with nothing but a desk and lots of boxes at the back.

You're very lucky You beat me by an hour or so (too bad the wife ate very slowly in the morning). Now the black beauty seems nowhere to be found again, except in regular stores. Oh well..

Happy shooting to you!

Bogdan Vaglarov August 10th, 2003 10:01 PM

Allan, is your wife Japanese?

This Japanese wifes are always slow to spend some more money on something good (electronics particularly).

I was almost ready to divorse as my cam stayed 3 days in the shop, while people from US were getting theirs for 2 days!

Samuel Raj August 10th, 2003 11:17 PM

No problem Lincoln, I got a black one 2 days later but not from Royal...had to check nearly 50 discount shops before I finally got one! It's not mine actually... Anyhow, you'd better take care of your Black Beauty...it's truly a LIMITED edition model.

Bogdan, the wife is non-Japanese. Up to now, I had the impression that Japanese wives are easier to convince (buying) based on my experience with a Jap girlfriend. So when they become wives, they're all basically the same after all (LOL).

Enjoying Obon holidays!

DooKee Cho August 14th, 2003 12:18 PM

Hi,

I got mine (silver model) from pricejapan in the morning(9:30AM) today (Aug. 14) from ordering on Aug. 12th(6PM) by DHL.
I was interested in Black model but I decided silver model after all.

Cheers,
DooKee

Bogdan Vaglarov August 14th, 2003 06:45 PM

Allan, I envy you for the black beauty. When told from my shop I have to wait unspecified time to have one I decided to have the silver immediately.

Envy you for the wife too - with Japanese you can't have slow breakfast you know.

Just received a nice black DV cam at my doorstep less than an hour ago. It looks really cool!

The fact that this is a Japanese-only model was a problem for me. I would never have bought this if not for this forum. It's impossible to ignore all the posts and praise. Plus, the English translation "seals the deal". Big thanks to Kuraoka-san for his work!

query for owners of gs100k

I'm placing an order for this cam within the next couple of days.

Need your inputs on two things:

1. the CD with the driver software that comes with the shipment is in Japanese, and will work only with Jap OS. Is there an alternate that will work with Windows 2000?

2. The remote that comes is also marked in Japanese. Is there an English alternate?

I am OK with dealing with the Jap menus using the excellent translation provided by others on this board, and intend to manage with the 953 Manual.

Thanks in advance for your response.

1. It works with my XP(Not JapOS) but I installed usb+web driver +G726(for mpeg4) only from CD. Other programs(should work too) have japanese menu so I didn't installed. I guess no problem with window 2000. Or you can find english version driver (for gs70 or MX500A but I think they should work) in support section - http://www.panasonic.com.au .

2. You can find english version (PV-DRC9 Remote Control(English) For Panasonic Digital Camcorders) in B&H
but I don't know it works with gs100(it is for gs70 ).

Shawn Thomas August 19th, 2003 09:09 PM

i wanted to let everyone know that the jap cd in the box with your cam that contains the driver files is fine to use

just pop in the disc and dont auto play it
instead browse it to the drivers folder and only install the drivers and not the software that is jap
the drivers are universal for your os and are not in jap nor are they hard to locate when browsing the disc
if anyone needs more specific instructions i will be happy to post detailed

as for the remote i have printed out and cut
from a template i made in psp from a picture of the 953 remote that picture is on the yahoo gs100 site if you dont have one

Amit Sawarkar August 20th, 2003 01:20 AM

Thanks DooKee Cho & Shawn for your resonses.
Much appreciated.

One more query. I've heard a lot about the 'Skin tone' feature on the gs100 model. thats not available on the current (older) US version - 953.

Can you help explain how it works, and the settings to make it work. (if its explained in some manual thats available online, just point me to it).

thanks again!
- Amit

Rick Tugman August 20th, 2003 07:13 AM

Hi again Amit:

The skin tone feature is as I know it, just a button that sit inside the screen door. I believe it's either on or off.

As for the GS100 manual.... there is a pdf version of it. I have it but use dial up and I didn't want to e-mail it to you with your permmision. But it is available at the same Yahoo GS100 site or again somewhere here, but you may have to search the threads and go back several weeks to find the link.

If you need further help please let us know.

Amit Sawarkar August 20th, 2003 05:22 PM

Thanks again, Rick!

I've come across the 953 manual, and gs70 manual too on this board and the gs100 yahoo group, but not the gs100 one.

would be great if you can upload it to your yahoo briefcase or something from where I can download it.

thanks again.
- Amit
