DVC30 question

I realize little DVC30 information has been released, but has anyone come across any info about its iris?

Frank Granovski December 28th, 2003 01:18 PM

I'm curious because I took to heart Tom's discriptions of those lovely 2-blade iris systems on some new cams.

Paul Jason February 3rd, 2004 06:56 AM

I'm not sure if this information has been out or not. Thought I would post it anyway. http://www.digitalproducer.com/2004/...nasonic022.htm

Joe Carney February 3rd, 2004 12:12 PM

Other than that press release, there is no additional info about the camera at Panasonics site. Maybe I don't know how to search right or something.

Frank Granovski February 3rd, 2004 05:11 PM

Didn't I read that this cam will be out March 4th? It's funny that Pana hasn't posted more info about it, since it's release date is only a month away.

Tavis Shaver February 3rd, 2004 09:32 PM

what are your guesses as to what it'll actually sell for online/ at b&h

Justin Boyle February 4th, 2004 03:25 AM

well guys correct me if i am wrong but this camera looks a lot similer to the dvx-100 to me. are they the same ccds also. i don't know but it would be a killer cam if the low light was as good as the likes of gl2 and vx2000. If i could get a dvx-100 for half the price without cinema features i would be stoked. also with 16x zoom.
Justin

The same CCDs as the DVX100? No. 1/4" is smaller than 1/3".

As good a low light as the GL2 and VX2000? Nobody knows except the Pana factory people.

I would just call B&H and ask them. They should have an idea.

I'm still curious about the DVC30's iris, though. :-))

You'd also be losing progressive scan in favor of frame mode. Not that there is a problem with frame mode as I rather like it.

My guess is that its low light will be similar to the GL2.

More pics & info

I don't know if these pics have been posted here.. I saw them at another forum:

Also a link to pana jpn website (it has complete specs.. click 2nd link on the left panel):

DVC30's min illumination: 4 lux(F1.6 at 18dB)

Tommy Haupfear February 7th, 2004 09:36 PM

Taufik, welcome to the forums and thanks for the quality pics of the DVC30!

Frank Granovski February 8th, 2004 01:08 AM

Where are the specs on that site? All I see are pictures and non-English text.

Tavis Shaver February 8th, 2004 01:23 AM

they're here http://panasonic.biz/sav/camera/ag-d...g-dvc30_t.html

Frank Granovski February 8th, 2004 05:25 AM

Thanks, but both my browsers only show this: 110(幅)×116(高さ)×253(奥行き)m

Tavis Shaver February 8th, 2004 05:31 AM

you can run it thru http://altavista.com the translator there

Frank Granovski February 8th, 2004 06:12 AM

Thanks again. But what for? If this cam is intended for the English world also, Pana should have made this info available in English. Perhaps they haven't gotton 'round to it as with exporting their GS100 (and MX350 and MX3000 etc). :-((

Guy Bruner February 8th, 2004 06:47 AM

You can get a copy in English on my site.

Frank Granovski February 8th, 2004 07:10 AM

Thanks. But when I go to your link, all I get is a dark blue background. Maybe I'll try my other browser.

Frank Granovski February 8th, 2004 07:15 AM

Same thing with my other browser. :-((

Guy Bruner February 8th, 2004 08:32 AM

Frank,
Don't know why, it seems ok to me??

However, try this direct link
www.fortvir.net/downloads/DVC30_specs.pdf

Rob Easler February 8th, 2004 11:09 AM

Here is something I find interesting on the DVCPRO page of the link that was posted earlier in this thread

http://panasonic.biz/sav/camera/ag-dvc30/ag-dvc30.html

It lists Pana cameras from the 30 to the 100 and above but it doesnt show the 80 at all. Does this hint discontinued status is comming for the 80?

Frank Granovski February 8th, 2004 11:48 AM

If that is so, then it's bad news for the PD170.

Tommy Haupfear February 8th, 2004 02:23 PM

You mean good news for Sony. A shame because it looked like a an affordable alternative to the PD170/VX2100 as long as you didn't need 24p/30p like its big brother.

Frank Granovski February 8th, 2004 02:39 PM

I meant that the DVC80's may be going for cheaper, while remaining stocks last---you know, like with the PV-DV852 and AG-EZ50U.

Tommy Haupfear February 8th, 2004 02:45 PM

Good point and I'll definitely be keeping an eye on the price. Especially when the DVC30 hits the scene.

Dave Kim February 17th, 2004 11:14 PM

$2199? not bad.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=277532&is=REG

also includes B&H $100 gift card, so actually $2099!

Tavis Shaver February 18th, 2004 01:02 AM

n/m

Frank Granovski February 18th, 2004 02:04 AM

I'm still wondering about what kind of iris is used on the DVC30. Anyone?

Peter Jefferson February 18th, 2004 07:49 AM

no idea frank, but does anyone knwo what kinda batery it takes?? is it liek the mx500/dvx??? or GS series??

Frank Granovski February 18th, 2004 10:54 AM

Sorry, I don't know, but I'm sure we'll both find out soon after Allan reads your question.

William Forde February 23rd, 2004 02:40 PM

http://www.panasonic.com/pbds/subcat..._ag-dvc30.html

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/cont...=316090&is=REG

Pansonic and B&H has started listing the dvc30.

Rob Easler February 23rd, 2004 03:43 PM

Uh huh and B&H has the list price $200 more than Panasonic. That's pretty funny.

William Forde February 23rd, 2004 03:48 PM

i think that is because they are adding an extra battery and carrying case.

David Warrilow February 25th, 2004 05:09 PM

Hi,

I think the most interesting unanswered question on this cam is what is the 16:9 like? Is it the 'full pixel' 16:9 like the MX-500 or is it just 'squeeze' and masking it like the DVX-100? I have the (english) pdf brochure on this thing and there's not a mention of 16:9 anywhere. It's encouraging that it has 1/4" chips rather than the 1/6" - so I'm guessing a comparable or better-than performance than the pdx-10 - a market (it seems to me) to be squarely aimed at.

I have to say, from the brochure pics, this is one of the blackest, ugliest, bush-pig looking cams I've ever seen - and I think I want one on that basis alone! :)

Best,

DW.

Allan Rejoso February 25th, 2004 05:45 PM

no idea frank, but does anyone knwo what kinda batery it takes?? is it liek the mx500/dvx??? or GS series??

It uses the same batt as the MX500. VBD33/35/55 series.

Based on available info, it will have both letterboxed and squeezed 16:9 mode. Simulated shots shown in the Jap site indicate a reduction in vertical angle of view and no gains in horizontal angle of view

William Forde March 8th, 2004 11:52 PM

B&H has the dvc30 listed for $2199.

Frank Granovski March 9th, 2004 03:21 AM

Is that with or without the XLR adaptor (that docking type station)?

Guy Bruner March 9th, 2004 06:54 AM

Frank,
My understanding is that the XLR adapter, microphone, hood, etc. are all additional cost items.

Anthony Williams March 9th, 2004 07:07 AM

Here is the most info i have seen on this cam. Best thing to do is download the file to your computer and load it from there. There is considerable lag from the site itself.

The zero lux IR recording mode is very interseting.

http://panasonic.co.jp/bsd/sales_o/0...g-dvc30-p1.pdf

Frank Granovski March 9th, 2004 03:24 PM

Does that PDF file say what kind of iris the DVC30 has?
