I believe the MX500 (PAL) came out 6 months ahead of the 953, and the MX350 came out only in PALsville. So if this were true, it could be the PAL model.

One more guess, it it were an NTSC model, shouldn't it be called GS300 instead? Could it be that because PAL is higher resolution, then it's tagged as GS400 (LOL).

Carlos, this may be the one you've been waiting for.

I just received the latest dealer price sheet from Panasonic USA.
PV-GS400 is definitely coming to US. It is suppose to ship in June with MSRP of $1499.95.

Chris, have you come across any specs for the GS400?

And welcome to dvinfo!!

Thanks.
I have been lurking here for sometime.

Anyway, no specs yet but it says that it is replacing PV-DV953. They did not even list dealer price yet just MSRP.
As soon as I get some more info, I will post it here.

The possiblity of a North American GS400 is exciting on two parts for me. One is that if its the equivalent of a GS100 then consumers will have a worthy replacement to the great DV953. Secondly, I'll have an English manual for my GS100. :)

Of course its a great time to purchase a DV953 with it being $979 at B&H.

Thanks for the info Chris and look forward to hearing more from you.

I think its gonna be more exciting if the GS400 is actually the replacement to the GS100. That means Pany would be releasing its flagship consumer cam worldwide simultaneously.

Has that ever happened?

It is time for me to upgrade... (Just kidding!)

An english manual would be nice!

So who wants to replace there DV953 now with the GS400? Just curious how many people are thinking about it.

Frank Granovski March 17th, 2004 12:15 AM

I would hold off until at least its specs are posted.

Justin Boyle March 17th, 2004 04:29 AM

tell me about it. if it was anything like the vx-2000/2100 update then i would be pretty p_ssed to pay that much extra for the cam. i would think though that it would inherit gs-100's night vision ability but apart from that it is a lot to pay for only a minute gain. and no offense to gs-100 owners but i really believe that it would not be worth upgrading to this from the 953 because the gains on this cam are also very minimal. just my opinion though

The GS100 isn't a big improvement over the MX5000, I agree, but it is a bigger improvement when compared with the gains of the VX2100 over the VX2000 (in my opinion). Maybe Tommy or Allan can comment further since they both own both of these models---the MX5 and GS100.
