GS400 mic up to snuff?

What about the GS400's mic? Is it up too snuff? It looks further back than the one on the MX5, like the position of the GS100's mic. Is this better or worse? Shouldn't it be in front? Or Pana moved it back because of possible lens zoom concerns? And, how good is this mic? The MX300/0's mic has better specs that the newer models. Why?
