Pana Catalog on UK Site

This is an all-products catalog. In English. Can be downloaded in PDF form, but is a big one (and might crash Frank's computer). There is a picture of a silver NV-GS400B. No additional info other than the usual 12x, 3ccd, 4mp, etc. stuff. Looking closely at the picture, I think you can see the same "hood" setup that comes with the gs100k - except that this pic looks as though there is something (a filter?) in front of the hood, which is the way you would normally mount a UV or skylight filter on the 100k.

=)

thanx for the late brakin' news =)
this catalog has been up for at least a month.
there's a catalog of Pana-BE too, just in case you wonder.

here's a close-up of the GS400 and NVMX500 next to it to compare...

Now people will find a thread with info about the catalog and what is published on an official site, so they can decide for themselves what makes sense. I don't think Chris will object to that.

Patricia, you sound like you take this personal =)

i just wanted to let you know that ther are two other catalogs (Pana-BE has two in different languages) with "complimentary" specs.
I usually just use bebbelfish to go and browse there...

I thought I had put them in the thread for GS400 already.. =/

Patricia, does that UK PDF mention CCD size? (You're correct about my computer and PDF files.)

The first time I saw the picture of the GS400, I noticed right away that the front glass seems wider. After taking another look today, I hope I am wrong but, is it actually the opening of the hood that is bigger thus exposing more of the front glass? Notice that the sloping part around the perimeter of the opening seems to be gone in the GS400.

Anyway, I'll just wait for whatever official announcement comes. The GS100 is officially gone in the May 2004 catalogue of Pany Japan, while the Olympic logo has started to appear. So perhaps in the June 2004 catalogue, something new will finally come out.

Allan, you are right about the opening... and the galss.
If we had just larger glass and the same opening the benefit of the larger lens will disappear, and on the picture the GS400 is in a smaller angle (exposing less of the lens).

and another clue that the optical piece is this:
(f=3,3-39,6mm 1:1.6)
