Cost of Replacing Video Heads

Hello,

This might be a stupid question, but I've been wondering what the costs are to replace the video heads on the DVX100 compared to purchasing an editing VTR like the DSR-11. Basically the DSR11 is around $1800-$2000, and that is about two-thirds of the way to actually purchasing a brand-new DVX100 for $3300 (aprox.). So, would it be cheaper to just use the camera, and if the heads go bad, just get them replace for maybe $600 or $800, or to go out and buy an editing VTR? Thanks.

Jason

I think head replacement cost is closer to $900 to $1000 USD. Usually they'll just replace the entire tape transport mechanism as it's easier, quicker, and roughly the same money (more expensive part but much less labor equals same price).

The advantage of a deck is it's much faster, and doesn't tie up your camera. There's a new JVC deck (full size DV and MiniDV) for about $1500.
