HVX-200 PAL price drop! :-)

I just surfed in to my HVX-200 dealer. They have a lower price on the HVX-200 now. It's about 6500 USD + VAT now without anything. That's a 1000 USD price drop! Now it's becoming reasonable... :)

Did you undsrestand?

I will wait to see how the prices are with my local dealer and then decide if I buy the camera here or in the US. But with these prices, other HD options are starting to look attractive.

Price in Oz

Happily, the HVX will be available for $9900 in Australia from Videoguys with 1 4g p2 card...

I'm relieved to see a one card option - they're selling 4g cards separately for $1200!

That'd be nice Peter...and it'd fit my plan to pick one up in 6 to 12 months (if I don't go another hi def route - the cameras seem more similar than different). I'm not so sure though. It seems to me that camera prices tend hold for some time. I bought my xl2 at the cheapest source I could find in oz, and the price hasn't shifted in 9 months (nor can I find it cheaper). Nice for resale value, but not a great argument for waiting for prices to come down.

Can you think of any exceptions to this?

If you're looking at the HVX to make films, then getting an NTSC one from the US seems the cleverest option, because of lowest price and better slow-mo.

If you also might have to do something for local PAL TV market, then you can always shoot and edit in 24 and later transfer to PAL, as if you were using 16mm. Would it be that much a hassle?
