Hvx200 Low light situation
Hello:
I was wondering how Hvx200 owners felt the camcorder handles in low light situations. How does the Hvx200 handle low light compared to the DVX100, jvc gy-hd100? Is the Hvx200 very noise picture regarding picture when low light is present. Any responses would be appreciated |

DB,
DS is correct: there are plenty postings regarding the HVX and low light. However, a quick summary is that no sub-$10k camera is going to be a good low light performer. In testing we found that actually the Z1 was the "best" in handling low light, but the term "best" is relative to the rest of the HD/HDV crop of sub-$10k cameras. In fact, the DVX100B was even a tad better than the Z1, but it's not an HD camera. If you plan on many low light situations with any of the aformentioned cameras and you want to minimize noise from boosting gain (which is never recommended except as a last resort) then you need to be prepared with proper lighting and post techniques. However, gain boosting and it's subsequent noise can be used as a creative method for simulating an "old film" look. But then again, it's best to add EFX such as that in post. |

... ...and if you look even at high iso 35mm film,,,then...a lot of grain. There is no secret, low light sensitivity = grain (or noise in digital domaine). You can works againts, or "with". yes the HVX has noise. Yes the XLH1 has noise. but why dont we bother that much about grain in a motion picture presentation ? ..because there is a "story". so we dont focus too much on this "problem". |
