HVX200 and FS-4Pro HD

After further reading, I have edited my question. I see that the FS-100 is required for the DVCPro formats offered by the HVX200. I have been looking at DV Rack as a tool to plug into vegas for editing. The reason is, I can get a serious discount on the Full DV RACK package and have 160.00 in it. But from what I have read, it appears that DV RACK is primarily designed for using a laptop in the field. Is it possible to just use an FS-100 in the field and convert through DV rack on my editing pc in the studio? Thanks.J

Yes, that's possible. The FireStore can be set to record in MXF format and the DV Rack program includes (or, well, used to include... I don't know if it still does) the DVCPRO-HD Batch Converter, which can convert those FireStore files into .AVI files that can be used in your editor.

However, that's really not the best way to go. Don't get me wrong, I love DV Rack, it's awesome, but if you're getting it you should use it for its strengths, not as an ancillary tool, especially when there's a much better ancillary tool out there.

If you're using an FS-100 and Vegas, you want to get (nay, NEED to get) DVFILM.COM's RayLight program. It'll let you drag and drop those MXF files from the FireStore right onto the Vegas timeline. No waiting, no rendering, no converting, no hassles whatsoever. Shoot your footage, then edit your footage immediately, straight from the FS-100. Or, copy the FS-100's footage onto your system's hard drive, and then directly import it from there. It's a must-have for Vegas or Premiere Pro users who want to work with DVCPRO-HD MXF files.
