Softbox and gel filter questions

Hello all,

I have 3 Ianiro Liliput Model 150's, rated at 650W. They are very basic, non-focusable lights but they were given to me so I'm not complaining!

Firstly, I'd like to know whether there is a particular type of softbox I should look for to reduce harshness and 'spread' the light around. Am I right in saying that the softbozes designed for still photography would not be suitable for sustained lighting periods (ie they would burst into flames)?

Secondly, regarding gels, what is the recommended safe distance the gel should be from the body of the lamp and is there a maximum constant lighting time before they melt or catch fire (do they catch fire?).

Thanks in advance for any guidance.
