VariZoom's VZ-TFT Monitor serves two valuable purposes for the serious videographer. First, it functions as an external video display, allowing the shooter to step back from the camera while recording (no more bending over to peek through a tiny viewfinder). Combined with a tripod-mounted camera and a VariZoom lens controller, the VZ-TFT emulates a studio-style rig costing thousands of dollars. Used on a hand-held camera, the VZ-TFT enables the operator walk around with ease while accurately framing shots. Additionally, the VZ-TFT provides a highly compact and affordable alternative to bringing a conventional CRT video monitor into the field for video playback. Use the VZ-TFT to review footage (with audio) on an airplane or any other small space. Mounted on or near the camera, the monitor provides instant playback of footage for small groups. Two strongly recommended accessories for this monitor are the protective nylon storage case and camera shoe-mount.

Canon xl1/s Practical Manual

Does anyone know where or who can tell me where I can find what the practical applications of the camera are. I do have a manual but I was looking for something more on a more practical or lay mans terms on how to operate and more specifically set the camera.
For example what is AE and when to use it, what the iris is etc. if you want to do this then change this control. I know many of you might be professionally trained or have years of experience. so would you school me on these controls. Thanks

It's been my intention to create an area on the XL1 Watchdog to serve this exact purpose. If anybody wants to contribute, just let me know.

This is nothing new. The sad thing is, there are many others out there to stay away from besides this place.

Stick with DVinfoNet sponsors -- I went to great lengths to find the best dealers in the business and will stand behind any and all of the advertisers on my website.

If it sounds too good ...

In my quest for an XL1S, I too came across Broadway Photo. The price was simply too good to be true, but they do manage to get your attention. I have been in contact with ZGC.com and will be placing my order with them on Monday. Their representative has been very helpful and prompt in response to my many questions. Thanks Chris for recommending them.

I had a pretty bad experience with Adorama.com. Buyers beware! If I were a millionaire, I'd buy the place, fire everybody, and just shut the place down.

BHphoto.com, on the other hand, has always been helpful, friendly, reasonable, and straightforward.

Haven't had a chance yet to try some of the sponsors of DVInfo.net (I plan to), but I can say from experience that Varizoom has been great to deal with. So has Light Wave.

FS or trade VX2000 w less than 5 hrs

As it turns out, I've sold my first screenplay and will not have time to pursue my smaller projects. I bought this system in August for some film shorts and am happy to give someone (perfect for a startup film maker) a good deal. I will not split up the package.

* VX2000 - less than five hours on it with original packaging
* Kenko .65 Wide Angle lens (Never used)
* UV, Polarize and Flo filters
* additional 8 hr battery (NP 970?)
* G4 867 with super driver (DVD Burner) and 384 MB RAM w/ original packaing
* FCP 2.0 registerable copy (with FCP book by Lisa B.)
* Harmon Kardon sticks/Sub speakers
* Beachtek XLR adapter
* Glide Cam CamPal

There are full copies of Final Draft, Photoshop 6 and Premier 6 for evaluation purposes only loaded on the Mac.

New, this cost me over 7000.00 All of this equipment is near perfect to perfect condition. I even have the original CD-Rs and DVD-Rs that came with the system. I'm asking 5900.00 with buyer to pay shipping and insurance (required) or feel free to pick it up in Dallas. Cash or Postal Money Orders.

My price is firm and I MAY trade for a new or slightly used GL1 and cash. Contact me at nashtx@yahoo.com

Chris Hurd November 22nd, 2001 12:30 PM

Congratulations on selling your screenplay!! That's a major career turning point and I wish you the best. Way to go!

Folks, his package is an excellent, like new all-in-one production bundle for a very good price. Who will jump on this?

Adrian Douglas November 23rd, 2001 07:18 PM

Wayne,

Can you send me the full specs on the G4. I have some friends who are interested in your gear.

afterburnerdv@hotmail.com

Congratulations on selling your screenplay. Suppose you won't be heading over here to Japan next year then.

Wayde Gardner November 25th, 2001 08:38 AM

Pretty much an off-the-shelf 867 G4 with another 256 MB of ram. this system is just over three months old. You can get more info at the Apple site.

867MHz PowerPC G4
256K L2 & 2MB L3 cache
384 MB SDRAM memory
60GB Ultra ATA drive
SuperDrive
NVIDIA GeForce2 MX
Gigabit Ethernet
56K internal modem

Not much else to tell.
Actually, I'll be in Nagano and Osaka in August on business. Love that long ride from Narita.

Adrian Douglas November 26th, 2001 12:31 AM

Thanks Wayne,

I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

Thank the Japanese for the bullet train, like a plane on rails. Makes the trip a little bareable.

John Locke November 29th, 2001 01:21 AM

Can't send you e-mail through your profile. What's your e-mail address?

John Locke November 29th, 2001 10:32 AM

Would be nice if it were formatted in a "hands on" way instead of just giving answers...you know, guiding people to arrive at the right answers. For instance, you're just given an objective (Shooting in low light), then given combinations of methods of shooting in low light (gain adjustment, changing the exposure, etc.), which the student goes out and actually does, then comes home, plugs it into the TV and compares the results of the different methods. Then, follow up with advice from the pros on what methods they use.

I get disappointed by a lot of the training books available now. They shoot for the quick answer solution which works well some of the time, but not always. I'd rather really learn how to use my XL-1, editing software, etc. inside and out. Been trying to do that on my own now. Coming up with self-designed tests. Hard to know what to do sometimes without a little guidance.

Anyone have a used Steadicam or Glidecam available in good condition?

<<<-- Originally posted by zchildress : Anyone have a used Steadicam or Glidecam available in good condition?

Just ran across a Steadicam Jr. on eBay that was at 255.00. IMHO, I'd avoid the steadicams.

The Glidecams are more durable and you can get the Glidecam 2000 and a Bod Pod for under 500.00 new at the Glidecam website and they work very well.

Casey Visco December 10th, 2001 10:42 PM

I would like to note that if you are looking to support your XL1, you might want to try our V-8 body-mounted rig. You can find info on this at http://www.glidecam.com/v8.html. I actually use one with my XL1 and it runs beautifully. I've found that the 2000 pro and 4000 pro tend to be a bit hard on your arm after a short while with larger cameras like the XL.

If you're interested in the V-8, instead of buying one through us, I can put you in touch with a close friend of mine who is looking to sell one used for a much lower price. It's still in very good condition.

FS: New 16X Manual Lens for XL1 & (s)

I purchased 2 of the new 16X manual Canon lenses for our two XL1 cameras and because of production needs am selling one of the cameras so we can buy two DVC200s. This leaves me with a 16X lens that has been put on the camera once and used for about 1 hour. I purchased it from B&H for $1599 and would like to sell it for $1499 and include UPS insured ground shipping at no additional cost. If interested please contact me at.

rlubash@2k-plus.com

Thanks,

Richard Lubash

PS: We also have a very low mileage XL1 with standard lens, extra battery, XLR adaptor and a wide angle lens that we are figuring out fair prices for if anyone is interested.

Adrian Douglas December 19th, 2001 06:46 AM

Is the XL1 PAL or NTSC

Richard Lubash December 19th, 2001 08:17 PM

The XL1 is NTSC

thanks,

Richard

Canon XL-1 for Sale

I've replaced my XL-1 with the XL-1s and am selling it in excellent condition with manual and all original accessories for $2000 firm. This camera has had Canon cleaning and service and has been well cared for. It looks like and performs as it did when I bought it new. Will be shipped in replacement box and I'll pay to ship it UPS collect.

FollowIt January 5th, 2002 10:48 AM

Format?

I assume your XL-1 is NTSC only because it wasn't mentioned as a PAL. Also, is it the basic camera and lens only?
Thanks.
