I think I understand that on the 5d in movie mode auto focus is enabled. So is the auto focus smooth and accurate enough for video? if not then it's all manual, but raises the question about holding...

You know I am gonna boycott canon if they don't do 24p. I will literally harass them on the phone. It's just frustrating that the perfect indies cinema camera is just right there barely out reach.

well for me the most important factor is in a lens is parafocal-ness. In other words it holds focus through out the zoom range.

Any way I think most of us would be fine with a clip on matte box.
