Re: Why weddings?
I'm in the same boat as Robert.
I've been DJing weddings for the last 13 years. My degree is in broadcast production so I figured I better put it to use somehow and started offering wedding video....

Re: Every 15 minutes.
When we did it 2 years ago we had 4 cameras. 3 worked great. While you don't want to miss anything keep in mind you will probably need to have it edited for the next day. 3 vs 4 cameras can help...

Every 15 minutes.
Has anyone here ever shot an Every 15 minutes assembly? This is where the CHP recreates a drunk driving accident at a high school and uses students as the victims.
We're shooting one tomorrow, this...

Re: Camera choice
Yeah this choice is not getting any easier. I just read a whole thread raving about the ac90 and it's low light capabilities compared to some of the older HDV cams (FX1, V1, XH-A1).
I doubt I will...

Re: Camera choice
Thanks for the link Phil. Can you enlighten me on the low light capabilities of the AC90? I'm really liking it but the small chips scare me when it comes to low light. I really liked my HMC40 but in...

Re: Camera choice
Thanks Jeff.
Low light is definitely important, as is xlr inputs and ability to adjust exposure on the fly. White balance isnt as critical on the fly as long as it is adjustable.
I do like the...

Thanks for the heads up on the ac90 James. How is the low light performance with such small sensors?

Camera choice

Looking for some camera advice. I am wanting to replace my Panasonic HMC40 due to its poor low light performance. I was strongly considering the Canon XA10 based on reviews I read...

Re: HMC40 vs. HMC150
I like my HMC40 but since we shoot mostly weddings I'm starting to really see the short comings of this camera. It does have great manual features and with the XLR adapter audio is great too.
If...

Re: Do you always shoot weddings at 1080P/24p?
With our HMC40 and T3i we shoot 720 30p. Our HMC70 only shoots 1080 60i.
We convert the AVCHD footage with Cineform and deinterlace on the HMC70. It all matches up pretty well on the CS4 timeline.

Re: Screen printing DVD's
I agree with Philip. We use the verbatim DVD movie discs, the ones that look like movie reels. They have a nice look and don't require any printing. When we need to double up we use double sided...

Re: Who's getting an HMC80?
Chris,
I already transcode everything from the HMC40 using neoscene. Not sure if you do the same or not but I was wondering if I could transcode the HMC70 footage to 30p to match the 40?

Re: Who's getting an HMC80?
Well I ended up with a HMC70. Thanks for all the info Chris. The 80 definitely looks like a great camera but budget and a pressing need won. I got a real good deal on a used one that was only used...

Re: Who's getting an HMC80?
So the hmc70 was better in low light? Is it a substantial difference? I have a HMC40 and love the camera but the low light sucks. I still need to replace my old DVC60 and want to stick shoulder cam....

Re: Time to hoard mini-DV tapes?
So is it still wise to invest in an HD camera that uses mini DV?
I have an HMC40 that is great and a T3i. I have been looking for a 2nd traditional video camera and have seen XH-A1s and V1Us going...
