Re: 3-Axis Gimbals?

Nice discussion. Based on the engineering I would pick the Helix, but it is out of my price range once you add all three axis of stabilization. It also doesn't come with much, even the carrying case...

Varavaon Birdycam 3 Axis Brushless Gimbal -- My Video Review

Like many users here, I'm a traditional Steadicam user. I love the purely mechanical nature of the device and appreciate the arm workout when going handheld. ;)

However, since the MOVI came out...

9 months to get to this wedding!

Well, despite the title, It didn't take 9 months to shoot this wedding (it was just a 10 hour day), but it has certainly taken 9 months to learn all the technical aspects to get to actually making...

Re: My first wedding portrait film. (5D Mark 3)

Dror,

I ended up using zoom H1s with Audio Technica lavs. It turned out pretty well! Good suggestion.

This is the ceremony film:

Steadicam Vest... Assembly Help

Hi,

This is silly, but I am having a hell of a time figuring out the instructions on the Stedicam Merlin Arm/Vest system. I have a pile of velcro straps and the instructions aren't exactly clear....

Re: My first wedding portrait film. (5D Mark 3)

Thank you.

It has occurred to me that the audio is not perfect. I recorded the interview with a Tascam DR-40 (similar to Zoom H4N) pointed at them with the built in XY mics.

The acoustics of...

My first wedding portrait film. (5D Mark 3)

I've never shot anything wedding related before so this is all new to me. This is an engagement film I did for a couple and I had a lot of fun capturing their story.

I'll be shooting their...

Re: Recording Skype Interviews

Thanks for the all the suggestions. I experimented with ScreenFlow 3 so far and it worked quite well.

Will try the Quicktime method tonight! Looks great, hope it captures the computer audio.

Re: Canon 5DM3 and FCP log and transfer

Thanks John.

However, I'm having trouble with the EOS plugin recognizing the Mk3 footage at all. When I point Log and Transfer to the Mk3's folders, nothing comes up. I get a blank preview window...

Re: Coollights LED600 Flood w/ Softbox?

Thanks for all the feedback!

I've experimented with diffusion paper and was pleasantly surprised with how well it worked! No need for the softbox for now.

I did order two sets of the slide-in...

Re: 5D3, SmallHD DP6/DP4 compatability

It's a breeze. I don't think this is a concern at all, especially with the peaking tools that come with the DP6.

Re: Canon 5DM3 and FCP log and transfer

Great tip! I thought it was because the EOS plugin had not yet been updated to recognize MkIII footage.

What's the difference between free run and record run though, besides being able to...

Coollights LED600 Flood w/ Softbox?

I picked up a pair of daylight LED600s from a fellow member. They are both the flood version. I've experimented briefly but would really prefer them to throw a softer light. I intend to use them as...

Re: All-I vs. IPB

It fills up the card faster but it is so much nicer to edit natively. I think the benefit to workflow far outweigh the added space.

Re: 5D3, SmallHD DP6/DP4 compatability

I'm using the same set up (5D3 / DP6) and I am Ok with the 5D2 preset of slight cutoff. I think you can use the top wheel to roll back and forth between the cropped 5D2 preset and the uncropped full...

Re: Canon Mk3 - Canon admits exposure error in low-light with illuminated LCD panel.

Yes, but having someone take your camera apart to apply a fix is not a risk free affair. I've seen enough service tech work to know that often they don't give a damn about your camera, and a stripped...

Re: Canon Mk3 - Canon admits exposure error in low-light with illuminated LCD panel.

My camera is in the affected range, but I don't think I will do anything about it either. Seems like an over-reaction to me as well.
