Re: OT: Anton Bauer battery life expectancy?

I had my first set of Dionic 90's last 5 years, with periods of hard use followed by weeks of non-use. I never left them on a charger. Sometimes they would run down so far there was nothing on the...

Re: Zeiss Otus 1.4/55

I have a complete set of the ZE's that is largely gathering dust (bought them in the heyday of the DSLR days, never use them for that any more and I don't shoot stills with them)--been trying to...

Re: Cinematographer ? what's that ?

Well, I'll tell ya, guys. The old ways are the old ways, and I'm learning to put them behind me. I was legitimately getting paid work as a DP (aka cinematographer--in the US at least, they are...

Re: creating fireworks flicker?

Thinking it through, big fireworks actually put out a good amount of light assuming they are reasonably close to the crowd. Where you may have issues is BETWEEN the fireworks--if they are not firing...

Re: New season of Key & Peele!

The first sketch with the old JVC KY-1900 cameras has emerged. I cannot tell you how much fun it was to shoot as "badly" as this requires--lighting/framing/movement all crafted to look as dated as...

Re: Dedolight alternatives?

Agreed on the Source 4 suggestion--a lot of flexibility there and quite a bit cheaper. Dedos are great for working in close, they are capable of great subtlety. I've been waiting to see if they will...

Re: creating fireworks flicker?

FYI Bill and others, I do have two Atomics for rent in the LA area, with two Detonators. As noted you will want to use a board to simulate the proper look of fireworks in this instance--four channels...

Re: creating fireworks flicker?

Real fireworks wouldn't be ideal if dialogue was involved, for obvious reasons.

Depending on how many people you need to see in the shot, I'd probably do it with a series of tungsten instruments...

Re: Filming a mobile phone screen without reflections

Every time we shoot a mobile phone these days, the screen is burned in (i.e. done as an effects shot). If you wanted to avoid roto-ing the finger, you could put a little green material over the phone...

Re: Blackmagic Design Production Switcher 4K

Was considering this unit but there were a couple of issues I noted. It would be fine for a permanent installation but for a situation where input sources would be plugged in and removed on each gig,...

Re: Over the top use of cameras much, Toyota?

I checked in with Roger Deakins who shot that clip (!) and he said it was indeed not staged--the Titan crane clipped the mag and sheared the mount in a flash. You can see him bolting away from the...

Re: Tokina AT-X Pro 28-70mm Canon EF - Angenieux design

It's a typical EF lens, aperture is controlled through the body.

You can learn more about the Angeniux/Tokina connection here (http://cameragx.com/2009/09/22/angenieux-28-70mm-f2-6-af/)...and this...

Season 3 of Key & Peele begins this Wednesday

Well here we are one year later, and 13 new episodes of Key & Peele start this Wednesday on Comedy Central (10:30/9:30c).

This season we pushed the envelope further in all directions. The very...

Re: Over the top use of cameras much, Toyota?

It reminded me a little of this old Clapton video, where I always felt that the underlying joke was a massive swirl of camera activity around a relatively boring subject (no offense Eric, obviously...

Re: TV monitor in the shot

One thing to add: both LCD's and plasmas will exhibit color shifts depending on your angle to the screen. OLED monitors will avoid this phenomenon.

Re: TV monitor in the shot

Generally the video that is running through a monitor is color corrected to accommodate the desired color temperature. While monitors hover around 5600 or colder, if you are shooting tungsten the...

Re: ARRI Amira revealed!

While ARRI is positioning this as documentary/run and gun camera, from what I'm seeing it has a lot of potential to replace the Alexa as the defacto episodic TV camera as well, where 1080 and at most...

Re: 2-Axis Brushless Gimbal on Steadicam

More like 5-10 minutes for the gyros to spin up, but yes they were always a handful (so to speak) in terms of power and weight. I myself used them a few times but wasn't a huge fan, preferring to use...

Re: anyone tried 12v battery and nanoflash?

Hirose connectors are cheap (around $10-12) and pretty easy to solder--I'm not the best at the process but I have cables around that I made 20 years ago and they are holding up fine.

Convergent...
