Re: Ikan's New Featherweight 3-Point Spot Light Kit

They are indicating that they are using narrow beamwidth LEDs on the panel. That doesn't mean that it is a narrow focused light overall. What that does mean is it will have a bit more throw and a...

Rent gear near Bremerton WA

I'll be in Bremerton WA Aug 7-11 to shoot for a documentary. I'm interesting in renting a LED light kit and tripod to ease my travel load. Something small, light, and able to be battery powered since...

That is coming from the polarizing screen on the LCD.

Re: FS700 With Macro Lens Issue

Do the lines move or are they stationary?

Can you post a short video clip in addition to the still image?

Re: Flying drones into fireworks - stupid or genius?

This seemed like the most sensible writing on the event I've read so far.

Re: Interesting look at sensor size, apertures & focal lengths

If he had opened up the video stating something more like:

In my xxx years experience as a photographer I've used a lot of cameras with different sensors. It can be frustrating to figure out how...

Re: Interesting look at sensor size, apertures & focal lengths

You are absolutely right that moving a magnifying lens closer and further from an object is NOT the same thing as changing the image circle of a compound lens. What I was attempting to do is describe...

Re: Interesting look at sensor size, apertures & focal lengths

Please don't take this as argumentative. I do quite well get the point. You are right that the reason is due to physics. Quantum Physics to be more specific.

I'm not disagreeing with the relative...

Re: Interesting look at sensor size, apertures & focal lengths

This is the kind of confusion I was concerned about with how the information was presented in that video.

The short answer is that video does not provide real information. It only gives the...

Re: Interesting look at sensor size, apertures & focal lengths

One thing we need to make sure stays straight in the discussion.

A f/2 lens can be large or small. Don't think the f2 lens on your pocket camera isn't f2 because it is small. It is f/2 and small...

Re: Interesting look at sensor size, apertures & focal lengths

That video is more of a political statement than real information.

A couple of reasons for my opinion:

He doesn't talk about the real reason why DOF is different for large versus small sensors...

Re: charging for travel

+1, I charge half day rates for travel days.

I charge full day rates if I work and travel on the same day. If travel pushes me into OT on a workday I bill that by the hour.

Re: Need ideas- how to create a little smoke?

It will fall downwards but you can move it up with a bit of air movement.

Alternatively if you need "hot" smoke you can buy one of those propane fired insect foggers from your home store and...

Re: Need ideas- how to create a little smoke?

If all you need is a little then some dry ice and warm water would do it.

Re: Racing the Cyclone - short doco

That was enjoyable to watch. Looks like focus got the better of you in a number of places. The focus issues were a bit distracting but overall I liked it.

Re: Pure White Background Advice....

You are also using a camera well suited for greenscreen. That doesn't hurt. :)

Using a camera better suited for the task does make it easier to get a nice edge. There is much less aliasing and...

Re: Pure White Background Advice....

In theory that looks like it would work but in practice it doesn't. Its really hard to pull a key perfect enough to drop in a solid color such as white and have it look good.

Re: Pure White Background Advice....

Brock,

Since you are dealing with a small space those work lights are less than ideal.

You should be able to build something that will work a lot better though.

1. Take 2 sets of those...

Re: Sensor readout question

To add some info to help with the data rate calculations, the image from the sensor has only one channel (pure luminance) when it comes directly off the sensor. There is no color information. Also...

Re: Any camcorders out there with shallow DOF?

Unfortunately that also eliminates anything under $40k since servo zoom lenses that work with imagers large enough for a dSLR DOF look start near $40k.

Re: Any camcorders out there with shallow DOF?

You can go with a Sony FS100. If you need to have future 4k or would like built in ND filters the FS700 is a good choice for the money.
