Re: Is Cineform worth the money
Matthew, for HDV only projects I used to edit natively. If I am mixing footage (say, a wedding shot with a combination of DSLR & XHA1) then I will transcode everything to Cineform so it all matches...

Re: DSLR vs. Video Camera
The AF100/FS100 don't offer the same amount of flexibility as the DSLR's, despite the fact they are specifically designed for video.
With DSLR's at weddings, my main lens is a 70-200 f/2.8. It's...

Re: Is Cineform worth the money
For a HDV-only workflow, you don't need Cineform and probably won't see any benefits at all, unless you are doing really heavy grading. I always edited HDV natively when I shot with Sony HDV cameras,...

Re: How do you handle BAD backlighting??
This is one of the reasons I shoot with a DSLR for weddings now - it lets you deal with tricky lighting situations so much better. One indoor venue I shoot regularly has an entire wall made of glass...

Re: Filming for slow motion
Actually Kevin, if you know you're going to be slowing the footage down, it best to ignore the 180 degree rule. Getting the sharpenst image to begin with (ie no motion blur) will allow allow Twixtor...

No worries, I'm sure you'd pull me into line whenever necessary too!
I do agree with you though that the 24-105 now looks a whole lot more appealing. given the mkIII's better sensitivity and ISO...

Re: Soliciting Comments on Startup 5D System
Sorry to be picky, but 2 stops down from f/2 puts you at f/4, not f/8. With shutter speed and ISO, doubling/halving the number will equate to a one stop difference. With aperture however, you need to...

Re: Problem copying clip from SD card.
As for how to prevent this in future, again I'm going to state the bleeding obvious... formatting your cards regularly (mine get formatted in camera before every use) is the best way to prevent card...

Re: Lost with all the rest-what to get??!
Ozzie, does the lens you are using have an aperture ring on the lens barrel? If not, you need to get an adaptor with a built in aperture lever. Nikon lenses, by default, have thier iris closed (ie if...

I think the 2nd kit looks much more suitable.
One thing nobody has picked up on yet though is the backpack - it wouldn't hold half of that stuff listed. It would be lucky to hold the camera and 3...

Re: 60D/550D Same Day Edit
Thanks. Everything was shot at 720p50, which gives me the opportunity to slow it down if I want to, otherwise just drop it on a 25p timeline as usual.
I only shoot 25p if I know I won't slow it...

Here's a short highlights clip I shot at a surfing competition this week. It was an SDE so I kept it fairly simple; please share your thoughts!

Re: Nikon D7000 24p PAL and NTSC confusion.
As far as I am aware, the PAL/NTSC selection on the D7000 is more related to playback on an external device than it is to acquisition frame rates. It simply makes the output video stream compatible...

Excellent advice Chris. This is what I was getting at by having back-up audio, but it goes for every other piece of equipment as well. Have two of everything, right down to a spare set of clothes.

Re: What Would You Add To This Equipment List?
I have a feeling the F3 might get left in the bag a bit at weddings. An amazing camera, no doubt, but weddings require speed, ease of use, mobility, and simplicity to setup.
Persoanlly I'd put...
