Well, the common saying is that any good lens out resolves the camera. So, that being the case, whatever minor difference there might be (say in tonality) would be so small that they're not worth...

The Samyang fits your price range - even a used Canon 35mm L will go for 3 times what the Samy goes for. Remember that you're paying for a lot of things most narrative video shooters don't need in...

And it is - sharpest glass I've ever used. Amazing value really for the sharpness. And the build quality is quite good as well, although not the all-steel construction of a Zeiss.

Great point - you can't buy something if you don't have the dough.
Far as other glass, I have the Tamron 17-50mm and it's a fine lens for the money (around $550). It's not as sharp as I'd like,...

Well, it's a great lens for stills - Ken Rockwell says it's as good as the "L" glass.
Problem is, it sucks for film making. The focus is maybe 1/4" wide, meaning most follow focus units won't...

I shoot narratives as well - meaning, we can get away with using primes. Primes in the "classic" focal lengths (14mm, 24mm, 35mm, 50mm, 85mm, 100mm) are going to be of a better quality then zooms in...

Right now, I'm investing in a set of Samyang (ie - Rokinon, Falcon, etc) for Canon for a few reasons:
1. Performance - by any reviewer I've read, they more then hold their own with glass costing...

The VG10 is getting new firmware soon that will allow users to buy, then use, Sony's Alpha lens adapter. Many VG10 owners were hoping for the long requested 24p firmware upgrade. Looks like it...
