The issue with ignoring the gamma curve of the instrument and discussing just the tools is that some of the tools will not work if you use one of the more aggressive gamma curves such as s-log....

Media Composer does the same thing. It shows an overlay when you are parked at the beginning or end of a clip or the timeline.

I've tried autofocus on a steadicam using the FS700. It has face detect autofocus but still got confused a bit. It was better than nothing but a far cry from having a focus puller.

It is more about how many discharge cycles they have been through, the nature of those cycles, and how the batteries have been stored.

With a 80% discharge per use expect around 400 cycles.
