Re: So where do we go from here? (whats next in video?)

I've heard a lot of speculation both ways. Who knows?

But, just to state the obvious, I hope it's not round the corner. Most of the 4K advantages (cropping, stabilisation, sharper output) seem to...

Educational resources for wedding videography

I noticed that Craig M asked about this in the "photographer walks backwards into water" thread, and thought it might be worth starting as a separate topic. Would be really interested to hear what...

Re: Wedding trailer

Some things that stood out for me:

-- Light beams during the bridal waltz -- wow. I'm assuming that capturing this was due to a combination of the smoke in the room, and also the character of the...

Re: I said i would not put him in the video but?

Just wanted to add that I found the links Peter's given really helpful -- in particular, interesting discussion at that Fred Miranda forum about overshooting.

The consensus there seemed to be...

Re: Critique my work (new to this)

Hi Ethan, just wanted to comment that one thing that's interesting about your camera movement is the use of multiple axes. I found that a little inspiring. What I mean is: the steadicam move up to...

Re: Premiere Multi-Cam - do you bother?

Can't live without it.

Using CC now, but don't recall problems with CS6.

Re: Setting up stage shots

Hey Jeff, for my own part I keep rethinking how I cover this part of the day and what I'm trying to get out of it. Currently, the main thing I do is I don't pretend it's not a photoshoot. But I'm...

Re: My first bigger wedding highlight reel

Some awesome lens flares, and that jib work was an eye-opener; I'm very jealous.

And thanks for including shots of cute photographer.

I'm curious -- what do you feel you took from Ray Roman...

Re: Latest trailer, complete with phantom aerials!

Thought the ending was quite powerful. Maybe it's the idea that the whole day, or the whole story of the couple, is encapsulated in that one look between each other.

Re: Ok, how about a bag/case for multiple tripods?

Hi Clive, here's what I use: Cinevate Inc Camera Slider/Grip Case CWSC-42 B&H Photo Video

It'll fit all the gear you mention, and has wheels on one side (a necessity). It's also durable; mine has...

Re: 2nd Wedding: Feedback Would Really Help!

I think she'll love it. It does feel more polished to me, and it also feels like you somehow packed more shots into it.

Couple more comments:

1:26: dropped frame (one frame of black)
3:58:...

Re: Another weddingvideo

Hey Noa, some random comments:

-- 0:27: the two TVs was a brilliant idea (the close-up of one screen, the bride watching the other). I mean, using them both allowed you to transition (from the...

Re: Sending samples and getting turned down

Clive, the priests here (of all faiths) are usually quite willing. Been turned down a few times by grumpy old ones, but generally they're used to it. If not, just say you want to make sure the couple...

Re: Sending samples and getting turned down

Clive, I'd always mic the priest as well as the podium. Then you've got everyone who says anything except the father of the bride. Won't take you 20 min, especially if you have everything connected...

Re: Lens Hoods

No lens hoods for me. If there's lens flare, either: (a) I'll live with it, and probably like it; or (b) a cupped hand should be good enough for a while.

The number of lenses I'm taking to...

Thanks very much for all the comments, Craig!

-- Grading:...

Re: 2nd Wedding: Feedback Would Really Help!

-- Re fixing levelling in post -- hopefully you've been able to Google the answer! Easiest fix is to rotate the image, then scale it up, but obviously there are limits to how far you can scale up...

Re: Some Lip Sync Fun

Just wanted to mention some shots I liked:

-- opening montage of shots was great
-- liked the bridesmaids' shoes at 1:07
-- 1:10: couple walking down the street with civilians on left of frame...

Re: 2nd Wedding: Feedback Would Really Help!

It's a worthy wedding film (in my opinion).

Random comments:

-- opening vow shot -- was this an unmanned camera? Framing isn't to my taste, but I reckon you'd probably agree, since your framing...

Re: So where do we go from here? (whats next in video?)

Hey James, thinking more about the question, I guess there's at least two questions that you seem to be asking:

1. How to stand out? / How to get a unique selling proposition?
2. What...

Re: Shooting modes for stage events

Hi Scott, someone who's actually familiar with that camera will better be able to answer you. But, two quick for-what-it's-worth thoughts:

1. I think the definition of "acceptable" is really...

Re: Do you shoot the whole day in 50/60p for a few slow-mo scenes?

25p for most of the day. 50p for particular parts.

Difference between 25/50 -- I believe I can see this even in the LCD screen, and surely it's just another part of what goes into a "film look",...

Re: So where do we go from here? (whats next in video?)

I've had a long hard think about pulling frames from video. Eventually decided against it. My reasons are nothing new, but basically it's that there's a compromise on both sides, especially the photo...

Re: Office Space

I do have an office that I've got for free, but it's in an industrial area, and I wouldn't take a bride/groom there, especially during the evenings, which is when most people seem to want to meet up...
