Re: Setting up stage shots

Jeff, I always thought of these as glamour clips, same as the photographer taking pictures. All I'm looking for is (usually) a great 5 second clip. At the same time, I'll often take some photos to...

Re: So where do we go from here? (whats next in video?)

I will defend that work with this idea: sometimes the point isn't the wedding itself, but the couple. If that's the case, then the couple went to the right people for more of a movie about...

Re: Great audio, bad lighting. good video

You have the right of it with DJ'ing.

For the light, I was consider something modest, even camera mounted, *just* enough to fill in those shadows just a little during the vows. I'm guessing it...

Re: Great audio, bad lighting. good video

Ha, ha, Chris.

Actually, DJ'ing is incredibly easy as long as you're not a complete jacka** and have someone to mentor you for a little while. I've been having the problem that I'm pretty bored...

Re: Best b-camera for C100

The main feature of the 70D was the video auto focus. So far, the only lens we've had that did it smoothly and quietly is the kit STM 18-55 f/3.5-5.6, though I haven't had access to any L series...

Re: Great audio, bad lighting. good video

Thank you, everyone.

I did more changes including color grading, and pushed the brightness more, though I will try another, pushing the ceremony levels more.

It will be interesting to see the...

Re: Yet another Sony A7S Low Light Video - Wedding Party

It may not mean it's better in low light when comparing cameras, but it does mean it does better in low light relative to if it had a crop factor sensor. There are other factors that matter for low...

Re: Great audio, bad lighting. good video

Hmm. OK, fixing it. It is 2 source and got out of sync.

Thank you.

Great audio, bad lighting. good video

Our latest is ready for some constructive criticism. I'm usually a pretty linear editor, but the combination of o much good audio from speeches, and having watched Edward Calabig's example this...

Re: Editing on a laptop?

I generally edit from footage on the internal drive, and backup all footage to duplicate external drives, stored in different locations. To make changes easy, things like the save file for Sony...

Re: DJ Light Problem

Amen, Arthur.

Anyone else, feel free to chime in with your pet peeves. I'd love to post them over on the DJ message board for informational purposes.

Re: DJ Light Problem

I think I'll be getting the list of vendors in advance, and contact the DJ with a friendly email, CC'ed to the bride. I do something similar as the DJ since I have such control over so many things,...

Re: DJ Light Problem

My point was, often the B&G didn't pay for them, or don't know to expect them, and the DJ just does it because... um, reasons, I guess. Just nicely asking them to lay off is your right, and of...

Re: Some Lip Sync Fun

I'm guessing it depends: if you post a wedding film you made, as an example of your work, that *should* be OK. If you create a NEW video for your website or other advertising, that would be...

Re: Sending samples and getting turned down

For DVD samples, if this is something that happens often, pick one wedding, make some copies now, and put them in a box to be ready. I haven't been asked once, yet, to see the full final product...

Re: DJ Light Problem

Naw, you guys are right to complain. On the DJ boards, when DJs post videos where we can see them using effect lights, or having their lights flashing during the 1st dance, it's standard practice to...

Re: Some Lip Sync Fun

Really? I need to check our their lists a little more often, then. I don't recall seeing Imagine Dragons on there.

Great work.

Re: Switching from wireless lav to small recorder for groom

I really like the Olympus DM-620. Auto levels do a pretty good job. It's small, light, so no one complains about it in their pocket.

Paired with a matchstick microphone, most of the time the...

Re: DJ Light Problem

If politely talking to them in advance doesn't work, may I suggest a rabbit punch to the throat? Then turn down the sliders on their light controller. Problem solved!*

*until the police show...

Re: DJ Light Problem

As a DJ, I never once considered how my lights affected photo or video, until the past few years. I always considered how my lights fit the moment, so I never had the lights flashing, or those dot...

Aww, hell, it's awesome work and great editing. I'm literally going to go back and rework the edit I'm working on now because of you. Thank you for sharing.

Re: Do you shoot the whole day in 50/60p for a few slow-mo scenes?

Shooting 24 fps instead of 60 fps is a very practical matter for us. I don't want to run at shutter speed 120. Of course, I *could* do that with out door settings, and it might even be to my...

Re: Vertical Photo in Video

Most common I see is the photo, zoomed to fit, in the background, often blurred or at 50% opacity or so. Gets rid of the black with color, but nothing to draw the eye away.

Re: So where do we go from here? (whats next in video?)

I really liked the video deconstructing Bayhem - the main criticism being Michael Bay just doesn't understand how to stop with the active dynamic shots and use something smaller and more intimate -...
