Re: Upgrading from XH A1 to XF300 (or XF100)

Just finished a few days shooting with 105 (thanks Tom!)
You will not be disappointed with either camera. The ND filters are automatic on the 105/100 which worried me a bit...until I used the camera...

Re: FCP X Now available to buy and download from App Store

Future potential is one thing but an unusable app that was touted as an upgrade Is another. I think that's the real rub. I have thousands of dollars invested in plugins and hardware to make FCP work...

Re: how can I get smooth (steadicam-like) shots out car window?

What you really need to do first is mount the camera in the car. You can't handhold it if the roads are as bumpy as you say. FilmTools has all sorts of grip gear specific to vehicles (as do other...

Re: FCP X Now available to buy and download from App Store

Re: Shooting Outdoors With The Canon XF 100

We just did a shoot outdoors and basically were on full auto except iris. clouds would roll through occasionally and depending on what we were shooting we'd either wait for sun or reset the iris....

Re: Bored in the Airport

These guys are my new heroes! They should have left some cash for the beer And the keyboard bit was a bit over the top (didn't look like it got damaged though) but having recently been in an airport...

Re: Which Bag for the XF305?

I went with Kata's OMB large. I carry my 7D along with the 300 and lenses, audio, filters and other small accessories. It's too big for airport use but great for making sure nothing gets left behind....

Re: My Home-built CFL light

I have several lights from cheap kits that use multiple 85w spiral CFL bulbs. Transporting my big ones which have 32" softboxes and 6 bulbs each is a pain.
When I was building my studio, I...

Re: how to shoot this - make a rose disolve into air

I'd go the green screen route for that shot.

Shoot a video plate of where you want the scene to take place
Shoot the handoff of the rose on the greenscreen I'd do more of a tight shot of the...

Re: How many of you actually create your DVD menus from scratch?

Depends on the deadline!! Ha ha!
Do most from scratch but there's some I can't spend the time on. And the custom ones do take time! Especially since mine tend to have 20 or more chapters and...

Re: What Info Is Good On A Business Card?

Because I'm a one man shop, I chose not to put a title down.

In contrast to Jon's liking "Owner" or "Founder" I don't like that any more. I used to have that on cards and occasionally it seemed...

Re: Trying to establish a day rate...help?

I had an interesting situation come up recently. One of my larger clients has been hiring me for shoots and we settled on an hourly rate rather than a day rate since they feed me so much work. These...

Re: Canon, where oh where art thou?

You're right...I am asking for a specialized camera. From my time in this profession, Ive come to realize there is no be-all, end-all solution camera-wise. Once again, I'm not specifically calling...

Re: AE, thin line at edge of picture

Check the position numbers to make sure you didn't bump the lower thirds layer along the x axis. It's pretty easy to make that mistake.
I've hit the arrow keys by accident which move whatever is...

Re: Additional capture device for XFs?

Re: Any major gripes with XF 300/305?

1) wide is pretty darn good. I do full body greenscreen from about 6 ft without a problem. My space is small! I do have the WA from Canon and it has a bit of fisheye to it but is cool for dramatic...

Re: Green screen - can I paint one?

Re: 640 x 480 Crop Mode

When I had my T2i I only use The crop mode once. Got a really cool vid of the moon rising out of the red dust. I had my 70-200 on so the moon fills the frame nicely! (1400mm equivalent!)
Worked well...

Re: Canon, where oh where art thou?

I'm not a technical person so don't know the ramifications of using the 5D sensor in a cinema camera...seems that the extra size would be needed for 4k. And to me I just wanted to rant about Canon...

Re: Which Run & Gun HD Camera?

Hey Tom!
As you know I'm a Canon guy and the XF100/105 might be just what you need. It's got the same 4:2:2 codec as my 300 but in a much smaller package. I'm considering one myself to use on my...
