The problem with using 35mm lenses to project...
The problem with using 35mm lenses to project onto a 1/3" sensor (optically speaking) is that 35mm lenses were made to project to a 35mm sensor, a broadcast quality 1/3" HD lens has more resolution...

Your on to something, but wide nikon lenses are...
Your on to something, but wide nikon lenses are really slow (for a 1/3" camera) and heavy, not to mention bulky. They will also cause the ground glass to vinnette unless condensing elements are used....

modify a firestore to accept CF cards?
I have heard of people modifying firestores to add 3rd party harddrives (outside of the box) for longer record times but is it possible to change out the hard drive for a CF card slot?:

I see, you want to create a pleasing specular highlight on your pool balls.
You can always move a smaller light source with diffusion closer to the table, but I guess you are trying to stay wide?...
