Re: Alter dinner rehearsal background?

Hey Bill, another thought -- after you've got your mask (and it doesn't have to be precise, because of the feathering), blur isn't the only option to de-emphasise the background. You know, can also...

Re: Another Mk3 or the C100?

Eric, I'm not sure about my claim! I find it hard to compare sharpness in your test because of the way it's cut, because you're shooting different objects, and because you dared to use real-world...

Re: Alter dinner rehearsal background?

Have you tried the roto tool in After Effects (I think it was introduced in CS5)? Works surprisingly well.

If that doesn't work, maybe just a crude mask with the mask tool isn't out of the...

Re: Another Mk3 or the C100?

Revisiting this old thread (in which I think I've made several inaccurate statements, and, as usual, several quite silly statements, but anyway)...

I'm jealous of Art and Tim's C100 footage. I...

Re: First C100 Wedding

Incidentally, Art -- beautiful images. Your work is always amazing. Apologies for giving in to the temptation to discuss cameras instead of craftsmanship.

Stop motion

This isn't my work, but had to share -- I thought it was brilliant. Stop motion videos by Michael Kriesch. Got to love the dancing accessories:

Re: First C100 Wedding

Hey Art, have you compared the lowlight ability to a Mk3, or are you using Mk2s? If so, is it a big improvement?

Re: Idea for speech recording

Possibly a card issue, you're right. But there was one wedding where it seemed to happen with both my Yamahas at the same time, so that would mean at least two cards! Ah well... Will just keep...

Re: Idea for speech recording

Hey Noa, I've been following your lead on this since I first read you mention this idea months ago. Have purchased two and gaffer them to microphones when I have to (if I can avoid it, I don't -- I...

Re: Do I need a glidecam for a highlight wedding film?

AU$0.02: vests give smoother movement, and make it a lot easier and less tiring for the operator, but most vested shots can be accomplished with a vestless system (maybe some exceptions -- eg you can...

Re: Replacement for faithful Irivers

The Rob Adams recommendation is Roland R-05 + Tram TR-50. The Roland is $170 at B&H, and I think it's basically as good as you're going to get in terms of a recorder that size. The Tram is about $240...

Re: Brides Say Videographer Never Delivered

Another thought as to why this situation might have occurred (a partial explanation, not an exculpation): he might have started as a photographer. This would fit in with him opening a portrait...

Re: Do you check every minute of finished DVD?

The way I'm currently doing it:

-- shorter films (5 minutes, 15 minutes, 25 minutes) definitely watch before and after they're burnt to DVD
-- ceremony and reception I supply as separate videos,...

Re: Just got back from Dubai. What a place!

Impressed by the clarity of the images, and the beautiful dark noiseless shadows during the reception.

Re: Brides Say Videographer Never Delivered

Just want to say: I do feel sorry for the SureShot guy, and I think it's not difficult to wind up in a similar situation without evil intentions, especially if: (a) you're charging too little, making...

Re: J/L - Highlights

Hi,

Lots of shots I found eye-catching or interesting. For instance, the shot of the number on the hotel room door as it opened (I've never thought to do that; I've always focused on the handle...

Hey Byron, just one or two more things.

About order in which to do things when you arrive at ceremony and reception venue...

I'm sure everyone has their own method, but mine is basically:

Re: What's the best way to find second-shooter gigs?

I actually think it's pretty hard to find regular second shooter gigs. First, you need someone who works with two or more shooters. Then, of the companies with two or more shooters, presumably most...

Re: What the Pros do...before...

Well, the basics for me is that I have a sort of shotlist.

At groom's: I'm after accessory and clothing shots (ugh!), ring shots, establishing shots, shots of any wedding decorations in house,...

Re: Help! Tascam Dr-05 audio issue

One possibility is that you don't have the right bias on the lav mic. I only found out about this recently, and am not really up on all the details. But if you buy a mic from B&H (say, a Tram TR50),...

Re: What portable lights do you use?

When I have to use one, it's usually a rotolight, so I can mount a microphone on the hotshoe as well without any additional rig. But the last six months I haven't used on-camera at all, preferring to...
