Re: My first wedding film & a thank you to this forum

Hey Noah, I liked the vibrancy of your colours generally; and I think three shots that caught my eye as compositionally striking were the through-the-blinds shot of the makeup, the shot with the...

Re: One of the First Weddings on BlackMagic Cinema Cameras

Thanks for sharing! First wedding I've seen on BMCCs. I think the better detail, colours, dynamic range do show. I'm intrigued by a lot of your dutch angles, and I think you're very brave for...

Re: Processional and Recessional tips

I tend to crouch at the front with monopod, usually on the groom's side. I picked up the crouch from Still Motion originally, who also used to like a steadicam following bride all the way down the...

Re: Wedding film - looking for feedback

Thought it was damn brilliant. Much, much better than anything I've done. I'm very jealous. Since you're asking for feedback, there's some very, very, very minor matters of taste I wanted to mention,...

Re: Corrupted Zoom H2 WAV file

I had a similar problem yesterday.

Basically, my setup was a Tram lapel microphone and a Roland recorder, but the particular priest (Zoroastrian ceremony) didn't have any pockets in his robe, so...

Re: Do I need a glidecam for a highlight wedding film?

Hey guys, I think he's talking about shutter priority or manual on DSLRs.

Joseph, two quick thoughts.

-- M is definitely the way to go unless you can't touch the camera for some reason (eg...

Re: Best cards for 5Dii

I don't know which ones are best, and didn't even know it was possible to use SD cards via an adapter! But I suspect plugging a CF straight into the camera will cause you less hassle than fiddling...

Re: Small slider recommendation?

Recently got an Edelkrone slider (for ease of aircraft travel). Here's some notes:

-- for travel, I found it was the only thing that suited my particular needs -- my normal checked in and carry on...

Re: First Wedding Video! **need critique!!**

Hey Bethany, take this advice with a pinch of salt (it's just my opinion -- I'm sure others will disagree).

-- Need a tripod. Even if you like a lot of handheld shots, it would be tiring to carry...

Re: Photographer Ruined Wedding ..

Sorry Shaun! Yep, your earlier comment made mine redundant.

By the way, raw footage has been discussed here before. Here's another thread:...

Re: Photographer Ruined Wedding ..

By the way, from a video perspective, what this incident amounts to is a warning not to supply clients with raw footage. You don't know how they're going to use it -- to damage your reputation,...

Re: Education / Workshop

Averaged about $1,500 over the past four years. Don't know if that's a waste, given how many good resources there are online. Don't have a subscription to Lynda, by the way.

2013: $1,500 on a...

Re: Going DSLR for Show/event filming

Ok, for comparison's sake, here's some samples of videos I did for a burlesque group on DSLR. Most are just 30 seconds long. Videos aren't optimised for Vimeo, but I doubt the image quality is better...

Re: Shooting a wedding with a Blackmagic

Form factor -- I personally think there's not all that much difference. Definitely DSLR is better (no external battery, has a grip for hand-holding when you need to, no touching the same screen...

Re: Photographer Ruined Wedding ..

Don't know if this is because they started on film, but I think most of the really good photographers I've worked with have only pressed the button when they were ready. Minimal spray and pray. One...

Re: Reception Toasts...

Hey Noa, do you do anything particular to the Yamaha sound in post? Do you apply an equaliser effect or similar?

I've resorted to gaffering one to a microphone a few times, and what I'm finding is...

Re: 10 videographers at a wedding!

I've heard of people using 8 or 9 videographers for very large weddings. (In contrast, I think Stellios on this board has talked about shooting Greek island weddings for 1,000+ people... perhaps just...

Re: Large Tripod Case?

Yeah, I'm pretty impressed by the straps as well. Thanks for the tip, Peter. Was looking for something exactly like this on eBay, without much luck, and also searching suitcase stores in my area --...

Re: Photographer Ruined Wedding ..

One issue that interests me is whether a court of law should be passing judgment on what is and is not an acceptable image. Frankly, I think it's subjective and none of their business! Is lens flare...

Re: Reception Toasts...

Quick thought... I've attached what I think is Rob Adams' setup from his Creative Live workshop to the end of this post (please pardon the MS Paint dodginess).

Rob puts his cameras together,...

Re: Voice recorder on Bride?

"We’ve also stopped relying so much on soundtrack. Now we use more natural audio and dialogue. In the end it makes for a much...

Re: Still Motion Feature

Thanks for the link!

And thank goodness someone is doing something different with wedding videos.

Contrast it with some other "evolutionary dead ends".

There's the game of image quality --...

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. Very much appreciated.

Peter -- you're right about the softness. And it's given me some pause for thought. Reasons for it? One is that the second video is SD....

Gerald, thanks for the kind words.

If you're making mistakes, I didn't see any! Looked like a professional job.

Re venues, maybe I'm spoiled. That cathedral in one of the clips -- I've shot...
