Re: f1.4 no longer vital?
The focal length isn't too big a fight for the rest of the time when we keep our distance (during the ceremony, we're never closer than 20 feet, except processional/recessional) but for dance floor...

Re: f1.4 no longer vital?
It's easier to collect good quality prime lenses than zooms that will be that fast. For instance, we shoot from three or four cameras, so will put four different lenses on, and space them out, for...

Re: f1.4 no longer vital?
I'll do handheld with the wider lenses, up to 50mm, but really, I usually have the camera on my tripod. Even if I fold up the legs and use it as a monopod - the extra weight really helps smooth...

Re: Gravity
Some of the dialogue is pretty forced and hokey, but overall, I really liked it. A movie like this avoids enough cliches that it feels fresh.
I read an article where the writer/director pointed...

Re: f1.4 no longer vital?
For us it's important to have options, but being able to hit f/1.2 or even 1.4 seems unnecessary unless I wanted to use the 70D, with it's focus-tracking, on a dark dance floor, because it would need...

Re: f1.4 no longer vital?
Wow, I always thought an f/1.4 was about the quality of the lens, not actually shooting at f/1.4.
At a ceremony, I don't know if we've gone below f/4.
At receptions, we've done f/1.8 and f/2...

In the descriptions.
another tip: Have page names match content and title of the page. For instance, "How-to-Hire-Videographer.html"

Re: How do you handle run and gun with a dslr?
Noa, you can get zebra stripes on a Canon DSLR via Magic Lantern.
In tricky spots, I'll setup one or two cameras with wider lens on a tripod if a know action will be within a certain space, just...

Re: What kinds of production do you?
We're pretty exclusively for weddings, which includes Save the Date videos and a photo booth. Maybe, someday, we'll move over to include other kinds of work, but we're just too green and uninformed.

Re: How do you fair in SEO?
The typical starting point a combination of:
1)backlinks from websites (I use free listing wedding websites, mostly but an article posted that links back to you is great)
2) text content on your...

Re: Cinematographer ? what's that ?
You are 100% correct. Everything in your marketing, material, and language should be short and on a 6th grade level and your story illustrates why, perfectly. You want what you say to have an...

Re: Solo wedding shooters: How many cams?
These days we've gone to four cameras:
1) safety shot in back
2) bride's face, tight/medium
3) groom's face, tight/medium
4) roaming, reactions, faces, or misc.
For security, I stow my main...

Re: Favourite lens for evening reception
Chris, we use 2 or 3 cameras for speeches and first dance, so we can go wide, medium, and tight. For instance, Saturday, we put the 14mm f/2.8 on the 70D, and put it in a fixed spot so it got the...

Re: How to kill our videography market
DJs see a lot of these same Craigslist style cheapos. The Pros are the first thing that come to mind for a company that is trying to be national, but just farms out work. It's been done in some...

Re: How to kill our videography market
Depends on if it's your gear and your experience, I suppose. If you provide your own gear? No, that's poor. $20-$50 an hour for the person PLUS gear "rental" fee, so to speak. For instance, if...

Re: Favourite lens for evening reception
We use two 5d mark iis, and a 70D.
For walking around we use either a 50mm for the 'be there' look, or a 14mm f/2.8 on a crop factor for head-to-toe coverage like if there is a dance-off or...

Re: Do you use lights?
Clive, for dance floor lighting, pretty much all DJs should be able to set it to the color you want/need. There's always a chance they still use three or four parcans with each being only one color,...

Re: Do you use lights?
While it might just be a question they think they need to ask, as a MC/DJ, I can tell you there are still videographers who use the blinding, camera mount light that really just wrecks the mood.

Yes, I forgot that part. During the hot summer, I'll often have a V8 with me for the salt. Maybe a sports drink.

We've had good success talking to the bride and groom about this. Get them on board, and they and you ask the pastor to make an announcement before the start. It helps A LOT, though you still get...
