Re: Very nice vari-nd filter

Well here is the ultimate variable ND filter from all reviews - Phil Bloom just did a small review as well. Its expensive - Zeiss glass seems to cause that. Superb color and pin-sharp.

Re: Starting from scratch... Lens brand and mounts?

I never use zoom in an interview and most of my films are interviews as a doc maker.

Focusing is critical in interviews - it has to be perfect and most zooms do not hold focus if you change focal...

Re: help me understand rolling shutter

In many cases a DSLR can be fine in doc work ... but not the majority given the drawbacks especially when you cannot choose location or even subject which is my case in docs.

But the biggest...

Re: Starting from scratch... Lens brand and mounts?

I am told that A-Mount lenses, using the A to E Mount adapter are very slow. The AF works but it is slow.

Also there are 3rd party adapters in the works (two) that will have full electronic...

Re: Starting from scratch... Lens brand and mounts?

Now you may understand why prime lenses are still very much the lens choice for most pro's.

For documentary work, a genre which basically rose up at the same time as fast zoom lenses - they went...

Re: help me understand rolling shutter

There is a glut of video out there recently from all the new DSLR shooters that exhibit horrible problems and its almost as if the photographers are either unaware of the problem or unable to edit...

Re: My FS-100 is being shipped today....

I will say one thing - AbelCine is a class act.

I bought my last two cameras with them and they are consistent with updates, email and tracking numbers with almost no prompting. Sheer joy.

Re: help me understand rolling shutter

Working on fiction you can plan for these things - yes....please go change your shirt...wardrobe!!
As a doc maker I have no choice.
One time I had to shoot a head shot because the woman wore a bad...

Re: help me understand rolling shutter

I think rolling shutter is not as bad as Moire - its not as distinct because most rolling shutter occurs when the camera is in motion.

For example last year as part of a documentary I filmed at a...

Re: help me understand rolling shutter

Almost all pans unless done really slow will cause rolling shutter on the 7D.
This and the bad moire effects convinced me that for general shooting DSLR's are not for me. Great for interviews and...

Re: Starting from scratch... Lens brand and mounts?

I think everyone agrees on the Zeiss cp2's!

Nikon F mounts solve many issues in terms of compatibility with a range of new cameras mostly due to adapter availability. Seems like everyone is...

Starting from scratch... Lens brand and mounts?

This is not a question specific to an adapter or mount... but the FS-100 begs the question: What if I start from scratch and invest in new glass for the FS-100 but also for future proofing on other...

Re: Color Sampling 422 ?

My answer... do not get fixated on numbers. Look at the images. Beautiful.

I have never seen a camera such as the FS-100 solicit so much interrogation without actually looking at the footage.

Re: Another lens and adapter question

I asked a similar question in another post on EOS lenses and an adapter.

I think the majority of FS-100 users will come from Canon DSLR's and you would think that Sony would manufacturer their own...

Re: ENG Style zoom lens for FS-100?

Re: Martial Arts video shot on the 7D - my first time playing with 60p on a DSLR

One of the biggest problems in focusing with DSLR's is zoom lenses and this is always overlooked.

DSLR zooms like Canon, Nikon, throw out the focus if you zoom. The lens are parfocal, meaning when...

The Rode has been designed to work with DSLR's so yes - just plugin.

The new Pro version is also a large improvement on the original videomic but I am not sure what you mean by clean?
Without any...

I also have Logic and in...
