Re: Weddings in 24 FPS

You guys are so funny. This is such a silly discussion. Just go out and shoot. Do what you like.

Re: FX7 Low Light? OK for weddings?

Darryn I think the fx7 would be a massive compromise for you. I would wait until your budget could handle getting the right camera for you rather than compromising. Especially if it is your...

Re: Weddings in 24 FPS

Randy,
I agree with the others that the film look is elusive and not easily acheivable. I shoot all weddings in 24p and take that to web, dvd, and bluray. If I shoot anything fir broadcast it's 30p....

Re: Canon 5D Mk III Best Practices

It's very interesting how quickly we forget the "revolution" that these cameras caused when they first came out. If this is too soft and flat and lifeless for you(or whoever) that just makes me feel...

Re: Canon 5D Mk III Best Practices

And to support Markus' point I like the opposite, I don't want to grade in post, I want it looking the way I want out of the camera and on the LCD. So I bring all of the those settings up a tick...

Re: Straightforward, Educated Answer Needed Regarding Music Licensing

Rey,
The licensing on work like that is about reason number 15 not to do it :) I think #1 I can't see how it can be profitable enough to make the time, work, and hassle worth it. #2 having to watch...

Re: Anyone offer ONLY a highlight video?

Tyler it sure is pretty. I can see why you can sell this for $1200. I would push to find out how far you can go with it. I imagine a lot higher. If you could add a storytelling aspect to the...

Re: Anyone offer ONLY a highlight video?

We should be cautious not to price based on length but on time spent. My packages are less expensive for the longer cuts and more for the short. Mainly because the short film as we call it takes 2-3...

Re: Anyone offer ONLY a highlight video?

Travis,
In my experience, putting a long form together is about the easiest part. I look at having to shoot all day with multiple cameras and all the audio just to get a highlight, and the edit for...

Re: Who's seen this 5d MK3 VS video

James,
If you look at Phillip Bloom's review, the issue becomes useability. I would rather have the mkIII where I could trust that it was going to operate and had easy battery replacement and...

Re: Latest. I feel it's narrative.

Patrick,
I'm not sure if you're aware but emi/universal just served their judgement against vimeo. That means they're going to gain access to all of vimeos servers to search for copyright...

Re: Outsourcing editing

Ethan,
Thanks so much for sharing that. I'll add two things. open communication is the key with an editor. They need to understand what you want and if you don't get it you need to control the...

Ethan,
Have you gotten it back on track? And how far behind does it get before your business starts to go down?

Re: Expensive vs cheap weddings

Adrian,
I truly don't believe that our focus should be on the size of the wedding, because generally what matters most is how important video is to them. There can be a wedding where there are 500...

Re: Outsourcing editing

Stevan,
I have two guys that edit for me. Both are local and I can meet them to swap drives or go over edits, so it is a very hands on position for me. I find that if I can get my head out of the...

Re: CreativeLive Wedding Cinematography Course

Just the couple and the sister. Interviews took about an hour. I ended up with 20 mins worth of sound from both. That's enough to make a 15 min film I think. The other 2 I've done have been just the...

I'm not sure this has been on the rail since it started :) Here's an example I'm working on right now. Trying to incorporate interviews into the final film and trailer. That gives me their...

Re: CreativeLive Wedding Cinematography Course

Dave,
If you had asked me 18 months ago if brides here would ever pay 3-4k for a video, I would've said resoundingly no. After studying Natalie Bradley's stuff, I changed the language on my website,...
