Re: New! Blackmagic 2.5K Raw cinema camera!

We pretty much mirror your thinking Chris.
Even as a small shop we have a pretty wide range of week to week creative challenges, but everything we write and produce whether TV spots, docs, promos or...

Re: The Hobbit shooting in 48p on RED cameras

Robert, if you don't agree with other people's opinions, it's really better to make your point without posts filled with insults and dripping with sarcasm.

In this particular case, frame rates...

Re: The Hobbit shooting in 48p on RED cameras

I doubt he's right. He's definitely not right with me.
I've seen what he's doing my entire life and his look and film look are the polar opposites. It's not only we in the production world that have...

Re: The Hobbit shooting in 48p on RED cameras

I'm with ya Charles. I spent a lot of money sending all of our TV spots and films to Filmlook for processing at that time. Then the process became available in-house, then we got one of the original...

Re: Canon USA introduces EOS-1D C Digital SLR camera featuring 4K

<<Just like high quality slow-motion needs to be shot with high frame rates (and/or with high shutter speed for post processing in Twixtor, etc.) -- no matter if the final destination is only 24 or...

Re: Canon USA introduces EOS-1D C Digital SLR camera featuring 4K

Yes Peer, but just like then, people can't hear the difference between 44k, 48k, or 96k. As a producer I've been involved in a number of blind tests like this comparing the highest spec audio gear,...

Re: New! Blackmagic 2.5K Raw cinema camera!

No offense intended Jacques but you couldn't know if RED or anyone else is producing better images because we haven't seen any comparisons or any footage from a finished camera.

All that exists...

Re: New! Blackmagic 2.5K Raw cinema camera!

Exactly Glen. This is definitively not a run and gun camera. No hot shoe, mic mount etc. or quick to grab buttons. This is a film making tool and if it was full sensor it would be the Scarlet or new...

Re: New! Blackmagic 2.5K Raw cinema camera!

Yeah, but I'm not looking for a stills camera that shoots video, I'm looking for my next filmmaking camera.

We definitely need to see more, but the ups seem way more than the downs - 4:4:4 pro res...

Re: New! Blackmagic 2.5K Raw cinema camera!

The expression game changer get's ridiculously over-used, but not in this instance.

Re: Canon USA introduces EOS-1D C Digital SLR camera featuring 4K

It's always pretty much the same - early adopters pay top price for new tech.

By the time 4k becomes of any real value/relevance outside of cinemas, it will be priced a lot differently.
As much...

Re: Canon USA introduces EOS-1D C Digital SLR camera featuring 4K

Honestly, I mean this with all due humility - if you know how to shoot and light, 5DII footage looks gorgeous.

We've got and will keep shooting with two of them. I'm cutting my most recent...

Re: Video: 5D Mk. II compared to 5D Mk. III

I would think they'd cut perfectly together.

Apparently I'm different from a lot 5D users though as the increased ISO doesn't really matter to me.

I don't think I've ever shot anything above...

The New Crossover?

My boy is top editor/producer in London and we were talking on the phone today about projects. They have to shoot BBC standard and so don't have any experience with the 5DII but he told me...

Re: Canon 2012 NAB teaser

It is pretty much the ideal evolution for the genre (DSLR filmmakers).

Everyone is aware that the DOF revolution started with the P&S Mini 35 and created an entire industry of spinning glass lens...

Re: Canon 2012 NAB teaser

I'll go back to my original opinion.
I think the hottest, most competitive camera they could produce would be a dedicated 1080 film making DSLR with the XF codec.

Only the smallest niche of users...

Re: So, is the 5D3 soft?

I think the first, unmodified image is by far the best Josh.
The tone and latitude are superior and with a little work with curves it could look sharper with no "sharpening".

I'd stay away from...

Re: Video: 5D Mk. II compared to 5D Mk. III

Boy, I can't wait to get one Jon. Those sounds like legal qualifiers at the end of an E.D.ad.

Re: Does 5d3 have 3-10x digital zoom like T3i/Gh2?

It makes sense that it would be a 1.6x feature, not a full frame feature.

Re: Canon 2012 NAB teaser

Here's my gut take.
Whether it's this particular NAB event or not, I think Canon, soon after the "unexpected" adoption of the 5DII by so many film makers and the subsequent DSLR revolution it...

Re: Saying goodbye to FCP X...for now...

Re: Saying goodbye to FCP X...for now...

I'd be interested to hear your experience William.
I have to stick with FCP 7 till I get through my schedule and I don't want to get into X until I know I can do it justice.
It sounds a lot more...

Not to beat up on ya Matt because I know you've learned from this (we all had to go through it) but you'd get that same feeling of security looking up and seeing your time machine arrow spinning...

Re: Saying goodbye to FCP X...for now...

I still don't understand why people don't use Time Machine in this regard.

Assuming that "the straw that..." prompted Matt's move to Premiere, then the simple and critical use of TM in the...

Re: FCP X Now available to buy and download from App Store

I like your attitude David.
There's no question that X isn't ready for edit houses and there's no question as a communications consultant that I wouldn't have advised Apple to take a very different...
