I used to create the same effect by putting the old VX1000 on auto exposure and varying the shutter speed.
If it is an April's fool day, they really put a lot of effort for the prank.

Although I also find your proposition very well balanced, 1080p 50Mbits still needs a lot processing so it is unlike that it would be implemented in a DSLR factor.

If it is a C100, I'm certain it will not loose the 50mbit codec. But IMO its very early for a C100.

C300's weakness wasn't the codec but the lack of 10bit out and 1080 50/60p. I guess both will be addressed with the new camera.
