The SmallHD monitor is 1280x800 and works very well as a field monitor. At 5.6" its in the range of what you are looking for.

Not to mention the customer service from those folks is top notch.

The 5d mark ii switches to SD when recording starts. Your SDI adapter may not uprez SD to HDSDI and if it doesn't your video will stop when you press record.

Try a HDMI monitor and you should see...

That is flat out awesome.

How does the rig work if you have to do faster moves? Do the motors make enough RPM to to follow faster action?

Sounds like a bad battery.

I use the same battery on my EX1r (I have 3 of them) and they all work perfectly.

Sure. I should have one of these shortly. Its full HD and has a 10bit panel. Response time is in the microseconds.

That is a feature of the EX1r. The original EX1 could not record SD.

Ah.. Well then you may be good to go if you can find the original accessories for the EX1.

The EX1 came out of the box with a component cable. Check and see if you still have it somewhere.

Why would you not take the SD analog composite signal from the EX1 straight to the mixer?

Are you saying that the mixer is SD SDI and SD firewire only?

In Vegas you need make sure you have the "Match Media Setting" in your project properties set and that should do it.

If its formatted as MJPEG then you should have no problem getting loss free edits with any modern editing program.

Make sure your timeline codec is set the same as the source file codec and you...

What you are asking for is only possible if you start with intraframe compressed source material (DNxHD, AVCIntra).

If you use any interframe compression (MPEG, H.264) you can only make loss-less...

The EX1/3 use the same memory cards and batteries as the F3 (the F3 can't use the U30 battery though) so you will be spending the same $$ on memory regardless of which one of that group you choose....

On mine the recording on the SxS cards is not S-Log when a monitor LUT is selected. It is the monitor LUT that is recorded on the SxS card.
