Yes. Your new best friend is going to be the Focus Lock/Auto button. I love that thing. I used it on my canons all the time. But they only went from manual to auto when pushed to pull a focus. ...

+1 on everything Noa said. He has it down. But the camera is so feature rich I disregard some of them but you might like them:
The camera will tell you in feet or meters what the focus...
