Re: What is a wedding story?
The cool thing about a bunch of men (so far) discussing this is it really doesn't matter what we think. Whether we understand it or like it or could justify it, our clients LOVE it. And it is in very...

Re: Editing Hour for 15min Wedding Film
I'm just not sure the market part is valid. There are guys in NY that would tell you nobody in big cities values video. I know that if I had researched my market first, I would've stayed with Doc...

Re: Editing Hour for 15min Wedding Film
Chris,
I think the point that Long was trying to make is that the potential for money making is greater with creative projects than with straight doc and it's a process to work up to... Also, I have...

Re: Editing Hour for 15min Wedding Film
I'm going to echo Long's post. I used to use the "in my market" argument a lot. I just wasn't thinking, shooting, editing, or marketing right. It wasn't my market that was the problem. It was me....

Chris,
I was in that same workshop this week and came away with a completely different mindset. I have been in the business about 8 yrs so I don't consider myself inexperienced. I am looking to find...

Re: Next Years plan
Tariq
i just read your thread about 5 in a row. This is another danger of undercharging. If you were to gross 15k on those 5, you could do what it takes to get it done and not worry about cards. I...

Re: Next Years plan
Tariq,
I think Chip offers some good advice. I can tell you that you also have to consider that emotion is the key to your work. If you can bring out the emotion of the day and show that so that...

Re: Next Years plan
Tariq, you're learning a lesson that can't be taught. You have to live through it. If you're doing any kind of creative edit, you need to charge accordingly. If someone came in and told you that they...

What he said at Infocus was that once they found that one song, they went through his entire vimeo channel and found 30 something violations totalled over 5 million. They settled for $50Grand. Scared...

As far as the "need" to use recognizable music in your edits. I have used 90 tracks so far from Songfreedom in my cinematic dslr shallow dof short forms and trailers, and it works every time because...

Re: Canon 5D MK 2/3 vs 6D: Film look
Rob,
I'm just trying to point out that the film look isn't as important as people that look for it think. If you know what you're looking for then why ask here? No one knows about the 6D yet, but it...

Re: Canon 5D MK 2/3 vs 6D: Film look
Sorry Buba, to me that looks mushy. The handheld shake is too much to handle, and you can really tell that was shot with a lesser image sensor. BUT that is what opinions are for. Getting to see a...

not bogus for me Nigel. Sorry. If I turn IS off, it's unusable. My tripod is fine, I promise. Your Mileage may Vary. Thing is, he should test these things for himself before a live shoot.

Re: 5d Mk. III for Broadcast - Yes or No?

Re: 5d Mk. III for Broadcast - Yes or No?
It's all about the content. If you have the right content, they'll show whatever you send. They have to set a standard so they don't get they next big reality show submitted on a gopro.

Re: EF 135mm/f2L: lens p0rn
I tried this lens after seeing this post. For me, the lack of IS was a dealbreaker. You couldn't touch the lens to focus or adjust without massive shake. Useless on a slider, and only good on a...
