Most high-end projects are shot flat. I shoot with the Varicam pretty often and using FILM REC mode the footage actually looks milky - BUT this is ideal for grading and the best way to do it.

I would normally agree. But I just don't have experience working with HDV and the Long GOP media.
I prefer HD video even for SD for reasons like you say... for example you can zoom into a shot...

Recording HV20 Footage to Hard Drive?
Anyone recording footage to a hard drive with the HV20 yet? I wonder if Canon will make CONSOLE work with it? I assume one of the Firestore drives will work?

Using Canon CONSOLE with Avid
Does anyone out there use CONSOLE with Avid Xpress Pro? Do you import the HDV clips into Avid the same way you do P2 (through the Media Tool)? And, do the clips come in with proper timecode, etc.?...
