Re: New Sony E-mount video cam for IBC

The first thing that stuck out to me was the "tulip" shaped lens hood on the thing, which implies a zoom, and typically a rather wide zoom. Are we looking at a fixed lens here, or are they also...

Re: C300 Mk II White papers

You would need some sort of converter to get 4k out of the C300II into this monitor. Dan Keaton from Convergent Design says the Odyssey 7Q+ hardware is capable of this type of conversion, although...

Re: C100 sensor cleaning?

I've literally never had a spec of dust show up on my c300, and I'm not exactly the cleanest guy when it comes to handling/storing my camera. There is an IR glass filter that sits in front of the ND...

Re: DSLR to C100 mark2

Generally no, unless you go the other direction. The C100 can be dumbed down to match the dslrs with its Eos Standard Gamma's and color matrix, but most of the methods for matching the cinema eos...

Re: ISO Talk on C100 MK2

Hi Dan,

Here's a piece I shot a few years ago on the C300, shot at ISO's ranging between 5000 and 20,000. All exterior night with no added lighting. Some shots we're illuminated only by a 90% full...

Re: ISO Talk on C100 MK2

Oh, Gary :-)

So Arthur. I think that this camera functions extremely well up to 5000, and certainly 10,000 looks very decent, especially when the light source is something like daylight.(often not...

Re: Odyssey7/7Q/7Q+ Firmware 2015.8 High Speed Apple ProRes and Vectorscope

Thanks for a great answer.

Realistically, I don't see us shooting 4k very much, but for the client that just won't take no, I was a bit surprised that the C300-II doesn't have the ability to run...

Re: Strain on the C300 EF- mount

I regularly use the 70-200 and canon's cinema primes on the camera with no support all the time. These are a little less than a pound lighter than the 28-300. If you are worried about damaging the...

Re: Odyssey7/7Q/7Q+ Firmware 2015.8 High Speed Apple ProRes and Vectorscope

Hi Dan,

This is somewhat (ok, largely) off topic, but this week Canon published a number of documents confirming that from a 4k monitoring stand point, the C300 mark II will only deliver a raw...

Re: C300 Mk II White papers

Just looking at the readout charts and some of the language in the manual, if there was something that could easily be implemented in firmware it would be 4k/60p. The way the sensor is being read for...

Re: C300 Mk II White papers

The manual is explicit that there is only 2k/HD over HDMI and SDI. The only 4k "output" is raw (via the REC and MON terminals). This was reported by Newsshooter and others at NAB. I don't think it's...

Re: C300 Mk II White papers

4k Monitoring. So the only option canon offers is a 4k Raw output over their Rec and Mon terminals, which apparently can only be utilized directly by monitors like it's $20-30K reference displays. I...

Re: C300 Mk II White papers/Instruction manual

A couple of other new things out there I just noticed:

the Recording features white paper lists a 550 Mbps version of XF-AVC for 120 FPS (which I don't think had been mentioned by canon before --...

Re: 120 fps Footage C300 Mark II

Yeah...I don't really see anything wrong with PB's C300II footage...I think we're seeing something very close to 1080p there and so there's nothing to worry about. The occasional aliasing in the Fs7...

Re: 120 fps Footage C300 Mark II

Someone who's an engineer in these matters might want to chime in. When we look at the 4k path on this camera, it refers to a 4 frame 1080p sample that is reassembled into a 4k ouput. And we know...

C300 Mk II White papers

Haven't gone through all of these yet, but a few takeaways are:

-- Canon's characterization of the camera as an extension and improvement of the HD/2K capabilities of the C300 with the addition of...

Re: 120 fps Footage C300 Mark II

it looks like we have an answer in the white paper that Canon published today. 120fps is taking a 14bit 4 frame (RGGB), 1k (540P) sample, processing it and then up sampling it to 2k.

So the good...

Well...this footage certainly looks a little like 720p in terms of resolution.

Re: 4k version of Trick Shot (C300 Mark ii Demo film)

Well I guess I was wrong (and I usually am) about half of it (the "adoption time" part, not the "everybody needs a new monitor" part). :-)
