the vignetting has more to do with the optics...
the vignetting has more to do with the optics (acromat, lenses,) than the shape of the glass.
kind of like using a projector to put an image on a huge wall versus projecting it on a projector...

As far as I know, it is best to format the card in the camera or if you have it a p2store, that's what I have always done with no problems. I have p2genie, and I have never used it to format either...
