Re: Shooting Backwards?
I prefer shooting one of the 3 or 4 cameras from "behind" the B&G and officiant, especially in those ceremonies where the couple have their backs to the audience for most of the ceremony. If you...

Re: DSLRs: am I just being paranoid?
I love the GH1. And I'm not trendy. It's absolutely amazing -- the single best piece of video equipment I've happened upon in a very long time. Small light body, manual or auto focusing with the...

Re: Pre-Ceremony Coverage
I almost never do video coverage of staged photo shoots -- to me, it's boring and redundant (since they're getting all those stills anyway). I'm only interested in candids -- the applying of makeup,...

Re: best shutter speed for video...
1/60 is a good SS to stick with. It's the slowest speed you can use with 60p (obviously), and has always looked good for me with 30p and 24p.

Re: Anyone given up on the DSLR for event?
There's no way I'd give up my GH1's at this point. I love shooting with them -- they're small, light, and deliver incredible visuals.
I don't think they're all that difficult to shoot with -- but...

Re: Lessons Learnt - From that first wedding
I'm trying to think back to the day I shot that first wedding on SVHS . . . I was the guy up in the balcony, the cutaway camera. I learned some very important things that day.
1. Press record. I...

re: What do you do when you take ill
I suck it up and do everything I possibly can to keep my agreement. I've worked with colds, the flu, hangovers, you name it . . . the shoot usually keeps my mind off the sickness. Sure, I crash hard...

Two main things that will cause you to improve dramatically: 1) watching others' examples and...

Re: GH2 finally HACKED!
That's great news, thanks! How would current AVCHD devices utilize the new specs? A firmware update?

Re: When a church is just too dark?
I've just begun using Red Giant Denoiser, because churches around here are dark and reception halls are darker.
While I posted a more comprehensive review of it on my web site, the bottom line is...

Re: GH2 finally HACKED!
This could be problematic for the AVCHD codec, as it doesn't support anything above 1080/30p or 720/60p.
This may be possible with MJPEG, but I'm not as familiar with that codec.

Re: Amateur Wedding Video - Advice Needed
It'll suffer when rendered to 1080 resolution -- for the web or Blu-ray. But if you're just going to DVD, then cropping won't degrade the picture as much.
Or you may consider doing your whole edit...

Re: Amateur Wedding Video - Advice Needed
I use very little prep footage in the highlights. The key is that you want to tell a story within 10 minutes (or however long you want it to be). For example, the beginning of the story can be some...

Re: Down the Aisle with DSLR?
Practice -- lots and lots of practice -- is definitely key. If you log enough hours with the camera, getting used to the screen and the nuances of the lens, you'll surely improve and achieve better...

Re: Help with my first Wedding shoot
I usually look for the most out-of-the-way speaker, so that it's less likely my setup is seen. And it really depends on the church -- some of them may only have one main speaker, and if it's...
