It does seem weird, but with a nose-heavy rig you drive the camera back for static balance but forward for dynamic balance.

I refer you to the dynamic balance primer at the Steadicam.com site, but...

I'm familiar with the Glidecam top stage. It's a deal killer for me personally but of course I'm used to geared adjustment knobs. It's how they've kept the cost down on that system, but it's a major...

It might be, but here's the thing--we adjust the balance of the rig every time we put it on, trimming the tilt to preset headroom for every shot, sometimes even between takes. It's a given that...

Julian:

It doesn't surprise me much that a rig can appear to shift weight if left hanging on the gimbal for hours--there may be just enough play in the gimbal and yoke that it can settle over time...

If your spin results in the nose of your camera pointing down, move the camera forward and the lower weights backwards until you regain static balance. The next spin should be better. Just keep...

Amedeo:

This is a good question. When you tilt a Steadicam, you have effectively moved the setup out of dynamic balance as the top and bottom masses shift relative to each other. The system can no...

Hi Terry:

Even with the monitor mounted on the base, it's still not a perfect dumbbell--consider where the top-to-bottom CG of the monitor vs the rear weights falls. We are talking ounces here but...

The "wobbling all over the place" is the part that needs to be addressed.
