Re: Lumix 20mm Pancake Lens Problem

I'm still troubleshooting this. I've spoken with some photographers, and visited my local camera shop to talk to the boys about this issue. None of them seem to have any idea about what is going on,...

Re: Shooting Only - Clients Edit

Exactly -- if I knew that I was handing over all my raw footage, I would shoot very differently. If I'm editing it, I shoot in such a way as to make editing easier for ME, knowing that most of what I...

Re: New Cam

I second the recommendation for the HMC40. I use two of them at weddings, and they're great.

Re: My wedding film

I'll echo Colin's comments. I was pretty confused throughout the clip, it seemed to jump back and forth in time a lot and not really tell a story.

There were some great shots, and there were some...

Re: Banquet halls with little room for Videographers?

The Magic Arm. It's a sweet little contraption that you can mount a camera to, then clamp onto anything 3" wide or less. It really saved me in a cramped wedding a few weeks ago. It's very sturdy and...

Re: Wedding Client Sites

I would avoid Flash. If the couple wants to bring it up on their iPhone or iPad, they won't see anything. Plus it'll load much faster if you use plain old HTML and CSS.

Re: How to shoot a wedding with the GH2/GH1

True. I should probably have said that I'm using the GH1 mostly at the reception because of its low-light capabilities with the right lenses. In those run-and-gun situations where I don't have the...

Re: cross-border weddings. hassles?

I turned down a Canadian wedding for this very reason. I don't want to have to sneak across the border to work illegally, and worry about whether I get caught. I don't need work THAT badly, that I...

Re: Adobe offers 50% off CS5.5 to Final Cut Pro customers

Amen. These "deals" that Adobe is offering are nothing compared to educational pricing. Their already ridiculous pricing is brought down to reasonable levels for educators and students.

Re: How to shoot a wedding with the GH2/GH1

In the wedding I did this past weekend, I shot fully manual with the GH1 -- Creative Movie Mode in manual, and manual focus. It's a lot more work, but the results are far better than the last few...

Re: Too many videographers?

I think Alexandru said it best . . . the B&G hired them all, signed the contracts and paid money for everyone to be there. It's up to us to be creative and resourceful -- we're supposed to be...

Lumix 20mm Pancake Lens Problem

I shot a wedding yesterday, and was excited because I knew the reception location is notoriously dark and I'm using the 20mm pancake lens on my GH1. However, the lens suddenly decided to stop...

Re: DJ allows Toasts while photo/video team are having dinner..

In all the weddings I've done, the B&G are happy to provide me a meal. It's my favorite part of the shoot. And I make frequent stops for beverages as well.

Re: changing project settings or copying an entire timeline

You oughtta send it to Adobe as a feature request, they seem to listen to users' suggestions. There's a link floating around the forum here somewhere.

Re: Another question on an AE effect.

I would guess that it's just another layer -- either an animated gradient or some sort of rainbow-like generated lighting layer -- placed on top of the footage over the transition. Looks like they...

Re: 2nd Camera placement

I just used the Magic Arm at a wedding, and it was a Godsend. The wedding took place at a very small, cramped outdoors venue. There was nowhere to set up a tripod for a nice wide shot. But there was...

Re: How to shoot a wedding with the GH2/GH1

Thank you for this Jeff -- along the way, you've really helped me to figure out my GH1's. The last wedding I shot with them looks spectacular -- apart from that autofocus hunting problem mentioned...

Re: Colour correcting your weddings

I'm in line with Ray, Aaron and Peter . . . I'm just happy if I nail the color temperature while I'm shooting (which doesn't always happen). I rely heavily on post color correction. I could always be...

Re: Too many videographers?

Unless it's absolutely necessary, I very much prefer to work alone. Part of the reason is the unobtrusive nature I wish to uphold. I know the benefits of multiple angles, but a good videographer...

Re: DJ allows Toasts while photo/video team are having dinner..

That's why I'm sure to make friends with the DJ as soon as I get there! :) I always am sure to stress my complete dependence on them. I haven't run into an uncooperative one yet.

I've also...

Re: GH1 - 24p in 60i Stream. Can someone explain STREAM/WRAPPER?

For sure. I've shot in 24p for things and they've turned out great. It's just definitely not for the weddings I shoot. And once I get my mitts on some good 1080/60p equipment, I'll never even think...

I never would. Those warranties are ripoffs, IMO.

Re: 20mm 1.7 vs 14mm 2.5

Agreed! I just had my first shoot with the 20mm, and was fighting with the autofocus the entire evening. It's a beautiful lens otherwise.

Plus, I was getting some strange glares with the lens --...

Re: Churches charging for filming.

It's sad to hear how a lot of churches have become places of business rather than places of worship, reverence and celebration. Sign of the times.

The only reason people still hold their weddings...

Re: Help with my first Wedding shoot

Haha, true! I'm very paranoid about that -- even with the hold button on and secured with tape -- and I always end up checking that it's recording a couple times. Then when I get the recorder back...
